Quick question. Why does the previous SE have a lower anechoic frequency response than the SE2?

It doesn't - we now base our specifications using our Klippel NFS rather than previous measurement techniques. Klippel NFS is much more accurate, in fact - there is nothing more accurate.

I'm actually interested in this, the 340 is a better speaker than people give it credit for.
It still has that nice but Bright at high volume tweeter...and I listen there... it's my Center, so I don't hear up much in Multi channel listening, once in awhile it sticks it's nose out there, but the 340se is pretty mint.
The SE2 IS worth looking at for sure .

Interesting, according to Spinorama website the 340SE2 has more bass extension all the way than the original 340SE when you compare the Klippel measurements which that site lets you do. So definetly not a bad thing though you probably couldn't tell it's so minor.

This speaker is designed to be used with a subwoofer. LF extension beyond a certain point does not bring any additional benefit to the table. Alternatively, trade-offs were made in favor of improved sensitivity. If you are using it with a subwoofer... that's a good thing!

I had owned CMT-340 SE and SE2, didn't make an upgrade.. Gave my 340s to my friend, missed them so much for music, had to order the SE2.. Have enjoyed music like never before.. Feel there is considerable difference in mids and highs.. I couldn't feel the LF extension as I always used it with a subwoofer.

With Rythmik LVF12 (got the ported one) this is a deadly combo.. With a marantz processor and decent amp, I'm pretty much settled on my 2 channel setup. I have used them in home theater setup also, they are quite awesome..

    No complaints at all..

I already have the center channel can't wait to get the mains. I have the center crossed at 100hz to the sub. No issues here either. I think it would be hard to find anything better at this price point.

I would say you CAN'T find anything better at the price point.

Because of its price point, it flies under the radar and many pass it over, which very unfortunate for potential customers (and Ascend).

I agree with this... We should have priced these much higher. For example, our CMT-340SE2 easily compares with the Arendal 1723 THX. Spinorama rates the 1723 THX with a tonality rating of 5.1 while Spinorama rates our 340SE2 with a tonality rating of 5.5. While this difference is quite minor, the Arendal 1723 THX costs ~$2K for the pair and our 340SE2 is $798 for the pair. And our 340SE2 has about 2dB higher sensitivity while the 1723 THX has a bit deeper bass extension.

That stated, I just don't feel comfortable jacking up retail pricing just to get consumers to consider it who think retail price is a reflection of performance. That doesn't sit right with me, and never will.
