Regarding volume levels, as with any speaker, it is a function of how far back you will be sitting from the speaker. As far as an 80Hz crossover, yes -- this is what is we recommend for the Duo.

Re: Introducing the Luna Mini Monitor!
I am looking at the luna as an office speaker atop a cabinet of drawers across my 12x12 room. I listen at fairly low volume in this space while working and occasionally turn the volume up for a certain song or album. My questions is I have an inexpensive Onkyo CS-265 mini hifi receiver I am considering using due to its form factor and functionality but it is only rated at 20 watts per channel. Will I be fine for low volume listening or will I be doing a terrible disservice to these speakers?

Should work very well for you in a small room. One quick question, how far back will you be from the speakers for the majority of your listening?

Re: Introducing the Luna Mini Monitor!
Just ordered and received shipping confirmation on a pair of satin cherry Lunas to be surrounds with S2 L/R and a Duo center in order to, as Dave said in originating post, go "ribbons all the way around".
Jazzed to be able to Rock the HT with RAAL tweeters performing multi-channel Classical, Rhythm, Blues, and Vocals in the near future!

Re: Introducing the Luna Mini Monitor!
What would be the major differences if I replaced my front 3 Sierra-1 speakers with Lunas? I have a subwoofer. Looking for something that would be easily mounted on my wall.

Quick but important question - how far back will you be sitting from the front speakers?

Re: Introducing the Luna Mini Monitor!
10-12 feet, there are no surround speakers, just the front 3.
If it matters, the setup is on the right hand side of the room, there is a sliding glass door that takes up the left half of the wall that the system is on.
e:
This is what I have to work with, TV will be mounted over fireplace, speakers on either side. Attachment 2012

At 10-12 feet, the Lunas might have some trouble reaching the volume levels you like to listen at, depending on your available power as these have a lower sensitivity rating compared to the Sierra-1.
2 more quick questions for you.
What amp or receiver are you using?
Are you able to provide me an estimate of how loud you generally listen at?
Thanks again!
-
Re: Introducing the Luna Mini Monitor!
Pioneer SC-37 Elite, generally listen to it at 40% to half the max of the amp. The room is really bad for acoustics with so many hallways and openings.
Before I added a subwoofer, I was already having issues getting it loud enough. Sounds like I'll stick with my Sierra-1s.

Re: Introducing the Luna Mini Monitor!
Is the baffle/upgrade kit available for the Luna and the Duo LCR?

We *hope* the components will be delivered to us within the next 2 weeks but we are still unsure. Freight delays have gotten even worse.
Not sure what you mean regarding baffle upgrade though?

Is there a price point set yet for the Luna upgrade kit? I found a pair used and am tempted...

Re: Introducing the Luna Mini Monitor!
I am happy to report that LunaV2 and DuoV2 kits are now available for purchase. We expect to start shipping these out by this coming Monday (May 23rd).
We have priced these kits to cover the costs of the components and shipping, there is no profit so please get your orders in quickly before we change our minds ;)

Remember, you will need 1 kit per speaker.

Re: Introducing the Luna Mini Monitor!

Dave -- For other upgrades you have provided a video showing the process. Do you plan on a video for the Luna/Duo upgrade? Also, could you provide us a link to the upgrade instructions? Thanks!
-
Re: Introducing the Luna Mini Monitor!
I'm happy that Dave is all caught up with all the upgrade kits. So now he can focus on the Tower upgrade kits ;)
-
Re: Introducing the Luna Mini Monitor!
Ditto...though the towers might use a complete different set of drivers being a 3way.
My set of circumstances is different with only my STC having RAAL...so I'll be looking at the very least swapping out 3 midranges...2 tweeters and bass driver units... perhaps...it's gonna be costly but worth it...moving forward.

WE don't plan on posting a video for this upgrade, it really isn't necessary. That stated, I will post the instructions on the product page for both Luna and Duo V2 kits.
Thanks!

Re: Introducing the Luna Mini Monitor!
Pretty straight forward upgrade. The extra fill behind the woofers gets some significant compression. I was tempted to move some behind the tweeter but just kept it behind the woofer and compressed it.

If we swap the ribbon tweeter for the Sierra-1 tweeter, we can offer a pair of Luna's for $988/pair. That isn't too much of a price difference as the woofer and cabinet are very expensive, but it does bring the cost down to under $1K for a pair...
In bouncing around between a million different options (see my separate thread), I started to wonder if the beautiful bamboo cabinets would get me more WAF on surround placement. However, the commenters in my thread have me leaning Sierra-LX for LCR. Have you tried a Luna with the Titan tweeter from the Sierra LX?

I would strongly recommend going with Sierra-LX for LCR ;)

Yeah, I'm leaning that way. I was going to do LX as LCR and HTM200 surrounds, but it seams silly to hide the beautiful Sierra cabinets and have the utilitarian HTM200 cabinets out in the room. So, I started thinking about Luna surrounds, but it would be nice to have matching tweeters all the way around (and maybe save a little on the budget), hence the question about Titan Lunas.

That is my current setup, and it is great. :)

Re: New for 2016 - Introducing the Sierra Satellite, or “Sierra Sat” for short!
The HTM200's work great as surrounds (and ATMOS Heights). I was running them as surrounds for some time. When I moved to the Towers, the S2's I was using as mains went to surround duty.

100% agree with this :)

Re: New for 2016 - Introducing the Sierra Satellite, or “Sierra Sat” for short!
Hi Dave,
Is there an option to get the Luna’s with the Titan tweeter instead of the Raal?
Thanks,
Ryan

I was looking for smaller high quality passive bookshelf speakers around the size of the KEF LSX… but I don’t want active speakers. Passive works, lasts for many years, and has fewer parts to malfunction/break. A rolloff at around 100Hz is expected at this size. I realized there is not much on the market in this category of high quality well designed compact bookshelves.

The current Lunas fit the bill for most, except as surrounds in my dedicated theater room, I really would prefer a dome tweeter for better dispersion all around. The titan is great, I am hoping Dave is able to offer that combo soon!

High priority for 2024, but it likely won't be until the last quarter. There are many complications to this due to the very small size of the cabinet.

I'm happy to hear I'm not the only one waiting for this, and now I know not to bring it up again until Q4 of this year.
:p
