Help - need a name for the Towers!
Hey guys...
My creative juices are almost empty due to various engineering/technical issues draining them.
I think it is time that we figure out a formal name for the new tower so I am coming to you for some help.
While we were devouring the world famous "porker" pizza this past Saturday afternoon, someone mentioned the name "Sierra Summit" and it seems to be sticking with me quite nicely. "Summit" for short -- or maybe Summit-3?
The tower is definitely part of the Sierra family so in naming the speaker, please keep that in mind.
Please throw your ideas out there and I have some custom Ascend baseball hats for the top 3 names.
Have fun!

How bout, the Peak or the Sierra Mount or the Ridge

Re: Help - need a name for the Towers!
How about - Alpine or Sierra Alpine
Tahoe?
I do like Summit.

Re: Help - need a name for the Towers!
After one scotch of deliberation:
The Ascend High Cascade Tower.
Shorthand could be:
Sierra-3 HCT, Sierra Cascade (SC), Sierra-3 Cascade Tower (SCT), or just Ascend HCT.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cascade_Range
The Cascades are just a geographic step north from the Sierra Nevada mountains, a trail of impressive, dangerous places...specifically North American volcanoes, called the High Cascades.
cas·cade
/kęsˈkeɪd/ Show Spelled [kas-keyd] Show IPA noun, verb, -cad·ed, -cad·ing.
–noun
1. a waterfall descending over a steep, rocky surface.
2. a series of shallow or steplike waterfalls, either natural or artificial.
3. anything that resembles a waterfall, esp. in seeming to flow or fall in abundance: a cascade of roses covering the wall.5.
6. a type of firework resembling a waterfall in effect.
7. Chemistry . a series of vessels, from each of which a fluid successively overflows to the next, thus presenting a large absorbing surface, as to a gas.
8. Electricity . an arrangement of component devices, as electrolytic cells, each of which feeds into the next in succession.
9. Biochemistry . a series of reactions catalyzed by enzymes that are activated sequentially by successive products of the reactions, resulting in an amplification of the initial response.
- verb
1. (intr) to flow or fall in
It's all there: flow, fire, elegance, beauty, prominence, power. Also it seems to pass the google test.

Doesn't flow as well as Summit but similar words.

Not sure if this is taken anywhere, but......

Re: Help - need a name for the Towers!
Dave, you can name that baby after your world famous pizza experience and call it the Sierra Porker!
But seriously, here are some more useful suggestions:
Sierra Insight
Sierra Citadel
I still really like Sierra Summit.

Re: Help - need a name for the Towers!
Sierra-Transcend
or
Sierra-TX3

Re: Help - need a name for the Towers!
It should be in the same "range" of mountains as Sierra. The most obvious would be the Sierra Nevada. The tallest is Mt. Whitney, so the Sierra Whitney?
There are also groves of Sequoias, so the Sierra Sequoia would be a name that would be, unfortunately, commonly misspelled--so don't want that!
Pegleg (who prefers your suggestion, Dave)

Re: Help - need a name for the Towers!
dave,
I also like the "summit" name. How about Sierra S-3 for Summit 3 way? Its abbreviated and maybe easier for folks to remember.
Good luck,
Brandon

Re: Help - need a name for the Towers!
Others for the list:
Sierra Stimulus
Sierra Sanctum
Sierra InSpire (spire can mean tall and slender)
Sierra SurMount (pun intended)
Sierra SurPass (pun intended)

Quee and I must share a brain! Sierra Summit and his two offerings are my faves so far.

Yup...that's why I suggested "Alpine" and "Tahoe"...both areas/cities in the Sierras.
The Sierra Summit or S-3 seems to be growing on me, but I wonder how many newcomers will wonder if there is an S-2.
"Skyline" I think has a nice ring to it too.
And I wonder if Jonny really only had one scotch. :)

There have been a lot of good suggestions, I don't have one of my own, but I like the one above the best. My vote would go to:
The Ascend Cascade Tower
or maybe the Ascend Teaton Tower?
It keeps the trend of naming the speakers after mountain ranges and the name "Cascade" has a certain sense of sophistication about it. Way better than Rocky, or Alp, Himalaya IMHO.

Re: Help - need a name for the Towers!
Summit sounds great, i personally think that the sierra crest tower would be the best name. Crest is a synonym related with summit(highest point possible).

Re: Help - need a name for the Towers!
That's the only problem I have with Summit or Crest....it implies you can't go higher. What if Dave plans on higher end speaker than the tower?

With the unique midrange driver with its phase plug sticking out like that, Teaton might not be safe! :D

Curtis,
I thought of this earlier especially knowing the original sierra was called the sierra-1. My original recomendation to Dave early on was the Sierra-3RT for 3-way reference tower, but if something beyond is planned, simply sierra-3T would do.
Nothing fancy, but if follows suit with the original sierra naming scheme.

Maybe I'll switch it up and go with numbers... 680's ?

Re: Help - need a name for the Towers!
Sierra Plateau?
Would it affect the sound if we place lil tassels or propellers on the tips of the mid ranges? If not, "teaton" just might work!!;):D

Re: Help - need a name for the Towers!
I like the Summit-3.
I see the point of not naming them a highest point and was going to say the same thing, but there are always higher things then the tops of mountains. You have plenty of atmospheric layers, or plenty of things out in space. And anything better may not be in the same family of speaker, and could be named something else entirely.
If the towers end up with the summit name you started out with, are you going to just send hats out to everyone who responded? Or just those that agreed with you?

Re: Help - need a name for the Towers!
Hello again, all. It's been a long time... :)
I am reminded of this old thread from 4 years ago, which some of you might find makes interesting reading, again or for the first time. I'm as interested in this speaker now as I was back then.
Regarding names, I haven't yet seen anything I like better than "Sierra Summit". The only alternative which I can come up with which rolls off the tongue nearly as well and conveys a similar but slightly different meaning is "Sierra Statement".

Re: Help - need a name for the Towers!
"Sierra Summit" is a fine name. Or you could just call the tower "Sierra Grande" (I think there is a real mountain/volcano in New Mexico called this). Regardless, I think you should keep "Sierra" in the name to make it obvious that it is an evolution of the Sierra-1.
For the sake of simplicity and continuity (as the Sierra-1 did not get a second name), how about simply naming the Sierra NRT bookshelf the Sierra-2 and the tower, Sierra-3?
In my opinion, the name should begin with Sierra, followed by either a number (ie, -2 or -3) or a name (ie, Summit, Grande), not both as this would be a needless source of potential confusion

Wow Gary...great read from the past. Your last post in that thread was almost exactly 4 years ago!

Re: Help - need a name for the Towers!
You're right, Curtis... 4 years, not 5 as I claimed in my previous post. Glad to offer that little bit of nostalgia... :)

Oooh, I like Sierra Grande! That's my new favourite, along with Brandon's Sierra-3T and the Sierra Summit suggestions.
