    Default First 3.1 setup

    Hi all,

I'm building my first 3.1 setup and am torn between a few options and would like some feedback.

Room size: 19'5" x 13'5"; the entire room will be for home theater so I can move the couch around to get the best listening distance

    TV: 77" or 83" LG B4

    Use: Movies/TV & gaming (PS5)

    Receiver: Denon AVR-1700XH

    Subwoofer: RSL Speedwoofer 10S MKII

    Option 1:

    L/R: CBM-170SE Bookshelf Monitor Pair ($368)

    C: CMT-340SE2 ($428)

    or

    Option 2:

    L/R/C: Ascend CMT-340SE2 Mini-Towers & Center ($1230)

I don't really have a reference other than a cheap used sound bar I've been using for the past 7 years. Or any other LCR recommendations around $1-1.5k? I'd like to upgrade to a 5.1 someday.

The CMT-340SE2s would make a great LCR combo for home theater. There are also matching stands for the left and right speakers with the TP-24s.

The HTM-200SE2s are popular as surrounds, for when you wanted to expand into 5.1. Those are $368 a pair.

For the TV, since you're into gaming, is the LG C4 in your budget?

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I was going to get the matching stands too if I went that route. They look really nice with the tower look.

If I wanted to start with the CBM-170SEs for L/R, would those be okay as surrounds if I went up to 5.1? The HTM-200SE2s probably wouldn't be great for L/R with the CMT-340SE2 center, right? I'm just not sure if making the jump up to the 3x CMT-340SE2s from the very beginning would be worth it for me since I don't have much to compare it to. If I would be satisfied with the 170s or 200s, of course I'd rather save the extra money.

I went back and forth between the LG B4 and C4, but ultimately decided on a B4 since I could get a bigger screen size instead of paying the extra for the C4. The room is in-ground and there are no windows so I thought the B4 would be okay for PS5 gaming.
