I have always loved the bamboo. Are there measurable advantages compared to MDF?

It shows up in cabinet resonance tests. Of course you can make the MDF thicker for less resonance, but then the outer dimensions of the cabinet would need to be larger, and suspect weigh more.

Environmentally, bamboo is a renewable resource. It is essentially a grass/weed and can be harvested and regrown quickly. I read somewhere that bamboo can grow 30+ inches a day.

We had accelerometer measurements posted on the old website. The differences in resonance were dramatic, especially when looking at impulse response.

I will have to see if i can find that old measurement.

Found it, it is in our forum here:

And that was with the older bamboo, the new cross-ply v-lam we are using is even better.

And thanks to that fine dining room table, Ascend customers are enjoying their inert speaker cabinets

Its super cool to learn of the story behind its adoption and it being an accident/fate makes it all the more interesting

    I remember reading that post in 2014 when I ordered a 5.2 Sierra/Rythmik set.
I research things to some extent professionally, to an almost mentally ill degree, even for the smallest purchase or recommendation, but audio systems are my deepest dive.
I researched audio systems for 15 years before ordering from Ascend. This is mainly because the speaker market has so much fluff and BS, it took a long time to sift through it and find what matters.
11 years later, I am back for a natural bamboo ELX.
