A few months ago, I upgraded my LCR from 340SE's to Sierra LX's (in a 5.1.2). Room is 10"x14', 9' 6" height. LCR, etc... is on short wall, SW behind sofa. Fronts are 8.5' from MLP. Mostly used for movie watching. I recently changed positions of speakers and added port "S" plug to them as they were sounding a bit boomy and dialogue wasn't as clear. Currently left speaker is about a foot from side wall and 18" from back wall. Right speaker is same distance from back wall and open to room entry doors further away to right. Doors are closed during calibration. Center is in open cabinet same distance to back wall.

I ran Audyssey MultEQ XT (app), sets LCR to 40Hz, SL/R 250hz (small Min22), Tops 150Hz. Running at reference mode, no DEQ or DV. I placed a 500Hz frequency range curtain.

Had a question with what folks do about setting for Midrange Compensation (MRC). The before correction graph shows a dip at 2k Hz for LCR and tops but not surrounds. So, I enabled MRC for all except the surrounds. Sounds pretty good. Haven't listened with it off yet.

I don't use MRC. I'd suggest trying a crossover of 60Hz to see if that sounds better. I also use the $20 Audyssey app to only calibrate frequencies below 300Hz for my LCR. I do full range calibration for my surrounds. That sounds better to me.

Thanks for your response. I played with the 60hz, and full range correction for surrounds. Still prefer the 40hz in my room, definitely like the full range correction on surrounds.

MRC is what creates that dip at 2kHz, it is a throwback to the old BBC curve and is something the engineers at Audyssey think makes a speaker sound better, at the sacrifice of accuracy.

I do not recommend enabling MRC for any of our speakers.

Also important to note that the curve you see after enabling Audyssey is simply a predicted response, it is not an actual measurement.

Hello all, I need some guidance/reassurance on a bone-headed mistake I made with my LXs. This morning I had the idea to try running my RME adi-2 dac straight into my amp, bypassing the preamp. Unfortunately the dac was set a 0 dB, which is essentially wide open and the amp played at this volume through the speakers for 5 seconds or so before I turned the knob down. I know the LXs can handle a lot of power, but could this have damaged the speakers in any way? Nothing sounds off, but I’ve learned not to trust my ears 100% on this kind of thing. Thanks in advance.

The drivers in the LX (both woofer and tweeter) are incredibly robust. I strongly doubt you caused any damage if the speakers sound fine.

We'd be happy to do a complete evaluation for you here at the factory, but shipping costs are expensive. Keep using them for the next few weeks and if they continue to sound fine, no concerns

Been reading through everything I can find regarding the Sierra LX and it sounds like a fantastic speaker! I stumbled upon ascend acoustics through researching the revel m126be speakers. I had the opportunity to demo them and I loved the wide Soundstage and huge sweet spot they created. I left not 100% sold though especially given their price. Anyway, while doing more research on them a comment led me to here. Speaker sounds like it has a lot of the same characteristics that I enjoyed with the m126be with possibly even more "enjoyment" with the extra punch. Obviously the price is much more palatable as well. So curious if anybody has heard both and has any feedback?

Also, my biggest hesitation with the Sierra lx is driving them sufficiently. I've read through all 111 pages of this thread and the take away is yes, my current setup will be fine, but curious if anybody has any feedback after hooking these up to their <= 100wpc system?

I recently got a denon home amp which is an integrated amplifier rated at 100w x2 and is a class d. I really don't want to move on from this system since it is a family room setup and going for a minimalist approach. Otherwise I would try the speakers and adjust the amp if need be. Room is 20x14x9 and listening position is about 10-11 ft. Also have the kitchen leading into the room and listen in there while walking around as well. Would I be up against the amplifiers limit or would it comfortably handle powering the sierra lxs? I don't listen crazy loud, but occasionally like to crank it up.

Appreciate all the contributions on this forum as it has been very informative!

100W is more than enough at 10 ft. I'm at 15ft with a 100wpc AVR and it can get face meltingly loud. Ascend recommends 33W minimum at 9ft and 90W at 15.

Seconding all of this. My AVR has 125 watts and I don't need to push the volume that far for the LXs to get loud.
