When set to small, the in general terms, signals above 80hz will go to the speaker, below 80hz will go to the sub. When set to large, the speakers will get the full range, and the sub will get stuff below 80hz.

Normally you would want to set the Ascends to small.

I finally get it!! Thanks, Curtis. When speakers are set to "large", the 80hz crossover only applies to what the sub gets, not the other speakers. They get the full range regardless of crossover setting. Man, that's been driving me crazy.
