Dialing in Stereo subs

How hard are thr Rythmik subs to dia in Do any of y'all use something lik the SMS-1 or do you do it by ear? Mine is a 2-channel system with a tube preamp

dialing in Rythmik subs is no more difficult than any other, but the Rythmiks do offer some adjustments that others don't.

In regards to the SMS-1, that is for EQing the subwoofer, which is something that can not be done by ear. In the very least, you would need the proper range of test tones, an SPL meter, and a parametric EQ of some sort to do the same task.

The SMS-1 makes the task of EQing the subwoofer easier. There a other products on the market that can achieve a comparable result at different price points and level of involvement.

The biggest drawback to the SMS-1 is that it does not truly process stereo subs, it nulls them to one signal. Thus for true stereo bass you would need 2 units. The SVS AS-EQ1 does allow for stereo, but also has a 7.5 ms electrical latency which requires either placing your subs 8.4 feet closer to the listening position than the mains, or purchasing a digital cross-over to compensate for the delay. There does not seem to be a single solution for DREQ of the subs. Is any one aware of any others?

The flip side to that is below 80hz, you won't be able to discern what is coming from the left or right, since information that low is omni-directional. The directional cues will be coming from your L/R speakers.

As for the latency/phase issues, I suggest calling Rythmik or Ascend to discuss.
