It has DVI switching, but no HDMI or Firewire. Don't know the price, yet.

Here's a pic of the back panel. http://www.outlawaudio.com/990_R_sm.jpg
Timing is going to be everything on this unit. If they don't deliver soon and get a good amount of positive feedback on the forums, it's gonna be tough on Outlaw. They've fallen behind in the upgrade wars.

Their products look fuglier than hell, but who can argue with a $699 pre/pro?
I didn't... :p
My next pre/pro will have a parametric EQ with a decent amount of filters for each channel along with good bass management for analog bypass or I'll just sit on my Outlaw 950.
I was going to wait until a pre/pro with HDMI and Firewire became affordable, but then there's support for the hi-def Dolby Digital and DTS sound around the corner. If I wait for a SOTA pre/pro, I'm afraid I'll be waiting forever. They always seem to lag behind receivers as far as switching and inputs are concerned.
I admit, I never liked the Outlaw "green", but I do like the plain and business like look of the 990....reminds me of NAD equipment.
Like David said...timing is HUGE. To me, with the UL listing on the back panel, I think the unit is ready to ship.
This is suppose to be the mate for Outlaw's new 300Wx7 amplifier... :p
Balanced outputs/inputs.
I bet products with similar features won't be anywhere near the 990's price point though...
I totally agree. That is also how I feel about my P-965, so I am very curious about the 990's price tag/specs.Quote:

I thought I read that they planned for it to debut at just over $1000.
Yeah Eddie...I have been involved with a few product launches, the UL approval is one the last things....in fact, if a hardware change is made, it needs to get re-approved.Quote:

I can live without HDMI and Firewire, but don't you think it would have to be upgradeable for the new DD and DTS formats? Some folks have speculated that it will still be 2-4 years before Blu Ray or HD-DVD really takes off. That may be the case, but for any of us early-adopters, this thing will be obsolete in nine months if it can't be upgraded.
I do not know much about the new formats from DD and DTS, but if the firmware has enough space for more code and the processor powerful enough, then I do not think it is unreasonable to expect it.
Working in information technology, when I was younger I always wanted to try and use the latest software and gadgets. Now that I am older, I would rather use stuff that is proven and "solid".
Curtis....
I believe there are some NAD decendants working for Outlaw.
It looks like their long-awaited 1070 receiver cosmetically, only taller.
Should be an interesting year for Outlaw as they launch several new products!
WOW!!
Price and some specs posted!! Looks like a winner!!! Now I REALLY wonder how it sounds!

SPECTACULAR! $1099 MSRP!
I'm eager to see the details regarding bass management though...
Nicholas...get one!!
From the text, the bass management looks to be at least as good as what I have now, and I have always like the triple/quadruple crossover feature...it is what I miss from my old HK.
Now...for those that believe a pre/pro can make a sound difference......would love to read from folks that have extensive pre/pro experience. That is what put me over the edge on my P-965....those that didn't even sell it said it sounded great.
Oh, yeah, sure... let me just go out to my money tree and do some pruning! :DQuote:
Nicholas...get one!!
My Model 950 is only 3 months old as is... :p
I want to see more info on it's bass management, and what (if any) EQ features it has. Otherwise the 950 does everything I need.
I doubt it has any EQ features....I would think that would have been a bullet in the text if it did.
When you find the info on the bass management...please pass it along....I will as well.

Looks like the Dac's and DSP are the same as the SN, 5 year transferable warranty is nice.
Great info!
This thing has a cool feature called "2 channel sub offset". It basically allows you to store different subwoofer trim levels for 2.1 and multi-channel. This is great news to me. My Yamaha 5790 will let you store 2 different sets of channel levels.....one for the multi-channel inputs and one for everything else. So, my levels are fine for multi-channel music, fine for movies, but since the same levels are used for movies and 2 channel stereo, my sub is always too hot for music. It's because I run it a few dB's hot for movies, which is great for that, but it sucks for 2.1. This is one of my few grips with the Yamaha.
