Need feedback please!
Hey everyone,
Happy 2023!
We are prepping for a large production run of Horizon cabinets and I would like some feedback regarding how we orient the grain.
Our stock cabinet looks like this (vertical grain)
Attachment 2605
However, customers have requested we run the grain horizontally, which would look like below. Horizontal grain is more common for a center and tends to make the cabinet look less bulky.
Attachment 2606
Please let me know which grain orientation you prefer.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Need feedback please!
I prefer the horizontal grain.

Re: Need feedback please!
The horizontal grain is in continuity with the ports and has a more relaxed appearance.

but which one sounds better? :D
I prefer the look of the horizontal grain.

Re: Need feedback please!
My natural cabinet is vertical, but I really like the Horizontal. Ultimately, for my use, it wouldn’t matter as the grille is always installed on mine.
Will the new cabinets have the magnetic grilles?

Re: Need feedback please!
On its own I like the horizontal grain better. I guess the question is, how would it look with Towers nearby?
With the darker finishes the grain isn't very pronounced anyway, at least not on my 7 year old Sierra 2 satin dark cherry cabinets.

Re: Need feedback please!
I prefer herringbone....jk
Since my STC...is vertical design... I lean that way...:)

Re: Need feedback please!
I prefer the stock vertical look as a center. I think it looks more seamless look when flanked with towers.
I retrained myself to dust the top front to back, since I instinctively want to go left to right against the grain.
However, it is possible more may be inclined to use the horizon as an LCR if the grain was horizontal and perhaps more are accustomed to dusting like that.

Re: Need feedback please!
I prefer horizontal...matches the widest dispersion axis too :) .

Concur, it immediately gives a more relaxed feel. I also prefer horizontal.

Re: Need feedback please!
Vertical. Also it matches the towers

Re: Need feedback please!
Horizontal....... more aesthetically pleasing to me.

Re: Need feedback please!
Horizontal is my vote. Grain looks better going the long way rather than short.

Re: Need feedback please!
I'd be curious to know if the horizontal pattern could be applicable on the towers...now that would be neat...to have matching vertical and/or horizontal grain...

That would be very difficult to do, if even possible.

Thought as much...upon further reflection the new design does look nice especially with the natural finish...highlighting the grain length wise...

Re: Need feedback please!
Horizontal.
Have you considered having the top and front horizontal and the sides vertical?
I’ve seen quite a few center channels like that. That way, from the sides, the LCR all have a vertical grain.
The downside to that design is if someone was using the Horizon as LR front mains, the top (and bottom) would be horizontal.

Re: Need feedback please!
Horizontal looks best to me because the speaker sits horizontally.
-
Re: Need feedback please!
Yes, Horizontal looks more natural for this one..

Re: Need feedback please!
My original reaction was that I like the horizontal grain better, but that was with the center in isolation. When looking at a picture like this one, I kind of like the consistency of having the grain vertically aligned for all 3 speakers. So I'm really no help on this. :)

That looks familiar! Soon to have an ELX Horizon in there though. :)

I think this settles the question. Although I voted for horizontal, that was not thinking through context. I think the three speakers should match.

Beauty! I refrained from replying because I didn't have context of all 3 speakers on display (although I was secretly pulling for vertical myself to match my towers), and don't have immediate plans to purchase a center channel, but this confirms it for me. I vote vertical

Re: Need feedback please!
I would think horizontal would still be a better fit because of the orientation of the speaker. All 3 are rectangular, and the center channel's orientation is different. If we have a picture of the horizontal also it will help. :)

Re: Need feedback please!
I wish you could get the width under 20"! Many TV Cabinets have center sections just under 20" such as the Salamanders.

Unfortunately, this is just not possible with the Horizon cabinet.
