'Queen Bee' by Taj Mahal. I can't seem to get enough of that song lately.
I listen to just about everything. I'm partial to classic rock hard rock and metal but love everything from Motown to classical. Right now I'm diggin some BlackBerry Smoke \m/
Tonight was:
Supertramp - Even in the Quietest Moments (Vinyl)
Pink Floyd - Meddle (CD)
There is a renowned tribute band in Los Angeles area that, on rare occasions, will play Echoes start to finish. It is really something special Live...

"Tin Pan Alley" from Stevie Ray Vaughan's Couldn't Stand the Weather. 1984 CD release.
9 minutes of dynamic, subtle, soulful guitar bliss. Dynamics to die for (18 on dynamic range database DR scale).
I just hooked up my first universal disc player, a Marantz UD5007, so I've been listening to all those SACDs I hoarded over the past year until I could listen to them properly. I know there are lots of debates about DSD vs. PCM, etc., and I'm not sophisticated enough to take sides, but I can say that these discs have been absolutely blowing me away the past few days--I expected subtle improvements, but the quality is so absurdly better than redbook CDs I'm literally shocked. Here's my weekend SACD playlist:
Oasis - What's the Story, Morning Glory?
Billy Cobham - Spectrum
Bob Dylan - Bringing It All Back Home
Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde
The Doors - Greatest Hits
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
The Eagles - Hotel California
I've never heard anything even remotely approaching the detail, depth, and presence of SACD...I don't want to compare to DVD-A or Blu-Ray because that would be beyond me. I'm speaking strictly of redbook layer vs. SACD layer. Absolutely amazing. Rumours was the first I put on and from the first song I was hearing breaths, nuances, and tonal variations that I never knew where there--I literally can't believe the difference.
I know this is more of a music thread, but I guess I'm just so surprised by my first experiencing hearing SACD the way it was meant to be, instead of just the hybrid redbook layer, that I'm still getting over it.
I've started to look into higher definition music and there is a big difference. I've been streaming HDTracks and my response has been similar to your experience with SACD.
Recently I was talking with a Producer / Engineer and he started me thinking about DVD Audio. I don't have anything to play DVDA with just yet, but hear Oppo is coming out with a true 4K player, so holding out for the used BDP105's that are likely to hit the market.
That's a good strategy. I was looking at Oppo too but decided not to wait so picked up a refurbed Marantz from A4L. Which I'm sure will speed the release of the 4K Oppo, just like lighting a cigarette always makes the bus suddenly appear :)
I should have also mentioned that the SACD layers I've checked out so far are Multichannel, not stereo. So I would expect to hear more detail, but even compared to my other mch discs I feel like the difference is above and beyond what I expected. Stereo comparisons might be more placebo than real, at least according to some people, but multichannel SACD is imo the best _format_ upgrade I've experienced so far in my admittedly limited experience.
Yeah, I've heard mixed reviews of SACD in two channel, but I'm sure in multi channel it's fantastic.
Now to re-rail the thread (sort of) currently streaming an HDTracks version of Getz/Gilberto and thinking how much better it will sound on my new Sierra 2's
Kat Edmonson - Take To The Sky
Doobie Brothers - Captain and Me
Just picked up these:

Whoever recommended this (search did not work), I thank you. A concept album nowadays is unheard of, you will never hear this on the radio.
I have been enjoying Steven Wilson's new CD 4 1/2. http://amzn.com/B017OJG1I4
Been on repeat here at the office all day :)
Seamus now ... up next, Echoes

I think Chris Thile is one of the most talented guys out there right now. I keep coming back to Punch Brothers. This record is recorded beautifully.

Also, I can't believe that Anthrax, after all of these years, has made such a great album. I think it's my favorite of theirs to date! Awesome songwriting and their tone is perfect. Love that the original vocalist is on this.

Spent the evening listening to an original my daughter wrote. Maybe I'm biased, but the song is really really good. The production seemed custom made for listening via my Sierra 2's.
Probably my favorite Peter Gabriel tune ever ...

One of my favorite albums.

The organ at the end of Brothers in Arms is about the most amazing thing you'll ever hear. My son (classically trained pianist and gigging keyboardist) heard it for the first time about 6 months ago and his jaw just dropped. A phenomenal song start to finish and one of my all time favorite albums.
Wow - fantastic, honestly not what I expected. Anything a daughter does is usually amazing to their father ;) -- but Haleigh is something else, great singer / songwriter and performer - total pro and she's also cute. Congrats - in the words of Simon Cowell, she's a triple threat....
Jonathan Davis - Alone I Play - Live at the Union Chapel (On Napster/Rhapsody)
Not your usual audiophile type music. But if you're into alternative rock/metal, it's pretty awesome.
