Hi Dave, I know you all have been super busy but any idea on when the ELX upgrade kits will start shipping out?
Dave, it was great conversating with you and Dina. Wish we could have had more time to hang out. Thank you for getting towers done in time and all your hard work.
Just a few comments regarding "room correction". Room correction can not "fix" a speaker. Room correction has zero effect on the most important characteristic of a loudspeaker, and that is dispersion (directivity). It also can not correct speaker phase issues or transient issues. All room correction does is apply a frequency response "correction curve" to the in-room response.
For any of our NFS optimized speakers, I don't recommend using room EQ above the Schroeder frequency. Of course you can experiment and if applying full bandwidth room EQ makes the system sound better to your ears, than use it.
Thanks Dave, it was really great to finally meet you and Dina and the guys. I wanted to say Cato is clearly the superstar team member whom I nominate for Employee of the Month. ;)
I used the Sheffield Lab track (your FLAC file) before you came into the demo room. Very cool track. It's what I wished the soundtrack to the movie Whiplash actually sounded like.
The tequila sounds great! I'll have to come up with an excuse to make the trip down again :D
Hope everyone is having a great holiday.
We are aiming to start shipping kits the 1st week of January. The hand optimization process of each crossover combined with testing takes about 2 hours so right now, we must prioritize production of full assembly towers as some customers have been waiting 4+ months and some even more.
Thanks for your continued patience!
so "spins" for the titan tweeter??? any love for this guy?? all I see is about the raal. what if I like all genres including heavy metal, rock, edm, and rap..raal still going to hang??
The Titan tweeter is also used on the Sierra-LX. It is excellent. Here's what Dave said about it:
"Somehow, this tweeter combines some of the best characteristics of the SEAS White Diamond and RAAL ribbons. It isn’t as ribbon-like as a RAAL, nor is it as transparent and detailed as the White Diamond, but rather it is an interesting combination of performance characteristics that make it quite unique. In many ways, it is a ribbon-like dome tweeter, or dome-like ribbon tweeter, the perfect compromise in the middle of those two very different top-of-the-line tweeters."
It doesn't have the ultimate detail of a RAAL, but in the application of the LX it is better "all rounder" than the smaller RAAL and can be crossed lower to the LX woofer(which the woofer requires). In the Towers and against the bigger RAAL, it is more of a matter of cost savings.

Yes, the RAAL hangs with metal & rock. I prefer it over the titan (I have the Towers with RAAL, to be upgraded sometime soon to RAAL ELX and a pair of Sierra LX's). Don't know about edm or rap as not my cup of tea
ok thanks, guys... have dave or anybody mentioned anything about matching certain amps with the elx ie; ss is better than tube and vice versa, or doesn't matter at all...i don't know if I even believe in that shit as long as it's receiving sufficient watts...and then also i think the titan may be in my application better suited for my numerous selection of music, but I also don't want to save 600.00 and find out I would have been better to have spent the extra coin. iow, does the elx tower with the titan measure worse/same/better compared to the raal? is the xo modified at all between the two different tweets..??
Some time ago, Dave had posted about not using a Class D amp with RAAL tweeters. As I recall, it had something to do with the switching and could aggravate some listeners, especially those with/prone to tinnitus. As Class D has technology has evolved, not sure if he still holds the same opinion. FWIW, I use a class A/B tube amp (Rogue ST100) to drive my Sierra Towers with RAAL and a 7 channel VTV Class D for Horizon with RAAL, 2xSierra 2 surrounds, and 4xHTM200 Atmos. No issues for the Class D for me.
I debated the same tweeter question when I got my first pair of Sierra's (the 2's, with NRT or RAAL). Speaking with Ascend, they had recommended the NRT due to my musical tastes (metal/rock mostly, with some Jazz, Classical, and Female vocals). That said, I wanted to hear the RAAL based on all I read -so that's what I went with. No regrets.
I've not looked, but hasn't Dave posted measurements for both (either on this thread in the first few posts or on the website)?
Not sure about the cross-over, but I would assume there are probably some differences between the RAAL version and the Titan version.
