Sierra 1 V2 distance from wall
Hi All, I’ve been enjoying my Sierra 1 v2 but noticed a lack of midbass slam. Measuring with HouseCurve app I see I have a pretty large null (10db at 157hz) from 135 to 185 hz. I’m guessing this is due to SBIR? What is the recommended distance from the wall behind the speaker?
Re: Sierra 1 V2 distance from wall
Equal to or greater than the port diameter is the general recommendation for distance from a wall.
Re: Sierra 1 V2 distance from wall
How far apart are the speakers and what is the distance to your listening position?
I saw somewhere that the midrange is affected by speaker to speaker distance. Further apart = weaker mids and vice-versa.
Don't know how true that is but may be worth experimenting.
Re: Sierra 1 V2 distance from wall
As mentioned already, try different placement.
That said, what are you comparing the lack of midbass slam to? Previous speakers? What were they?
Re: Sierra 1 V2 distance from wall
Thanks all! Speakers are 8 feet apart and I sit 9 feet away, back of speaker is 11 inches from the wall and I sit at tweeter level. I had focal aria 905 before which seemed to have a little more punch but I much prefer the overall sound of these. I can’t move the speakers much more off the wall, would room treatment behind the speakers help? The measurements look pretty good other than the dip right in the midbass region. I’m considering an upgrade to the LX but not sure if they would be impacted by the same issue due to room.

Those Focals are front ported which may have something to do with having more midbass slam.
The LX woofer definitely has more "oomph" than the woofer in the Sierra-1.
Where are you located? Maybe there is a LX owner nearby.
