One of my beloved CBM 170s has a tear in the butyl rubber surround (photo attached).
Could anyone suggest how to repair or replace this? These are such awesome performers (presently used as near-field monitors for my PC), and I really want to fix this, even if it's mainly cosmetic.

I’d call Ascend and order a new woofer. Easy peasy.

How old are they? Yeesh.
That's a good question, considering the woofer changed somewhere down the line. The original non-SE CBM-170's used an Aerogel woofer, but has since gone with a polygel type. Not sure if this matters but Ascend can tell you based on the serial number of the speakers.

Definitely not cosmetic -- a torn surround like that will completely throw off the compliance of the woofer. It will eventually fail with a burned or shorted voice coil...
You definitely need a new woofer, simply give us a call at the office :)

It's one of the originals, bought in 2004 or 2005.
