Hi,

I've read a few comparisons between the CBM-170SE and other bookshelves where people have noted the 170s have less bass and can sound too bright.

I am seriously considering putting these on surround duty and am trying to find more opinions before doing so.

Can you please share your opinion/impression of the CBM-170SE? What are your observations of their bass response and brightness? Do they have anything over the myriad of things on sale in their price range?

Also, since these would be used for surrounds, would you recommend they be higher than ear level?

Thank you

They are very accurate speakers. Those that perceiver them as bright, IMO, are just not used to the accuracy, or are more accustomed to warmer speakers.

As for the bass, they are not bass monsters. The bass for their size is what one would expect, and what they do play is accurate and not exaggerated.

As for being higher than ear level as surrounds, that isn't a function of the speakers, but is recommended by Dolby, "just above ear level".
