Hi everyone,

I'm very happy with my Sierra -2 LCR and CBM-170's for rear surrounds.

In 2 weeks I'm moving and I'm not sure about mounting the 170's in the ceiling (it's reasonably low).

Do you think I'll be missing much if I went for in ceiling speakers?

I can move the 170's to the den.

Thanks

Paul

Is ceiling mounting the only option? What about putting the 170s on tall stands to either side of the couch, or wall mounting them about a foot higher than ear level?

I don't want the stands behind the couch, too much hassle with wiring (wood floors). There's only one side wall.

So, if ceiling is the only option, what do you think, 170's or in ceiling?

I would go with the 170s on the ceiling. You'll just need a pair of sturdy swiveling speaker mounts. The Dolby recommendation is to place surrounds to the side or to the side and slightly back. http://www.dolby.com/us/en/guide/surround-sound-speaker-setup/5-1-setup.html
I would aim the speakers slightly above the heads of the listeners.

Have you considered non-Ascend speakers? I have Sierras up front, but due to size considerations, I went with Def Tech Promonitor 1000's for the surrounds and rear channels. I think I have average ears, but the Promonitors do a pretty good job for HT. And they come in both white and black.
