Ascend Acoustics Holiday Sales!

With the formal release of our Sierra Towers and now the Sierra Horizon, it has truly been a year of Great Sound! As we continue to expand performance boundaries well past what was previously thought to be impossible, while still remaining affordable, it is now our turn to give something back.

I am so pleased to make this announcement... By popular request, we now have a supply of stunning piano black Sierra Towers in stock. We bit the bullet and had our overseas Sierra-1 cabinet maker complete a large production run in order to bring the price of this gorgeous and popular finish down to a more reasonable level. Previous pricing on piano black towers was a minimum of $2698/pair. For this holiday season, we are now offering STUNNING piano blacks for $700 less per pair!

*** All sales end on Monday, Dec 31st!

$1998/pair for mirror quality, hand rubbed, piano black layered bamboo, 3-way floorstanding Sierra Towers!

And of course, these can also be ordered with arguably the world's best tweeter -- our custom RAAL 70-20 true ribbon tweeter.

I believe this to be the greatest value ever offered in a true high performance tower loudspeaker. But please, supplies are limited so don't wait - we have already taken quite a few orders for these.

In addition, I am pleased to announce that all of the below specials qualify for a full purchase price trade-up credit valid for 1 full year from the date of purchase.

*Trade-up credit can only be used towards a step-up / more expensive loudspeaker model and for the same quantity and type of speaker. For example, a pair can only be traded in for another pair of speakers and a center for a center. Yes, Sierra Towers and Horizons are included in this special :)

Of course, the speakers being traded in must be in good working order and free of damage. Shipping charges are not included and are not part of the trade-up credit.

It was a tough choice. Stick with the original plan or go for the Sierra Towers.

Decided to stick with the original plan. For my current place and budget, I'm really looking forward to the Sierra-1 Bookshelfs and Sierra-1 Center in Piano Black coming my way :D

I think they will be a nice upgrade over my AV123 ELT525T and ELT525C.

Happy Turkey!

Dave, I called in today to order the piano black towers and center but was told that center is not going to be available in piano black unless of course custom build which kept me away from towers in the first place as it was like $700 for piano blk finish and that is the only finish I want.

What about using the Sierra 1 piano black center?

What about using the Sierra 1 piano black center?

I am interested in ribbon towers in which case Sierra-1 wouldn't be able keep up and this setup is going to be primary HT setup so I would like the monster center to compliment L/Rs. I have attached pic of my unfinished setup when I had paradigm studios and looking for similar setup in terms of identical horizontal center as L/Rs. Purpose of the picture is to show not only Sierra-1 would sound unbalaced but even the look wont be same in my setup.

Is Sierra Horizon more complicated in terms hand rubbed finish?

Is Sierra Horizon more complicated in terms hand rubbed finish?
No...but currently the Horizon cabinets are all built in California, and hand rubbed piano black is costly.

I am okay with timline in terms of waiting for few weeks to couple of months for piano center as long as there is an affordable piano blk option in near future.

Did you ask Dave if that was a possibility?

No i didn't get to speak with Dave but spoke with Dina and she said piano black is not an option for Sierra Horizon at this time. Custom cabinet is an option but obvously that would be pretty expensive, she is going to get me pricing after holidays.

I could go for some cheap RAALS over the piano black as i already love the black matte :D

Would be a buyer instantly for that haha

I am really sorry about this. The issue at hand is that it is an absolute impossibility to offer an "affordable" US made true piano black finish. Because of this and because of many requests for piano black towers, we had our overseas Sierra-1 cabinet maker do a full production run on the piano black towers.

For the piano black Horizons, I do not believe the sales volume would support an overseas production run as we have to consider minimum purchase quantities etc, which are quite high. While I have no doubt that we would eventually sell through all of the units, doing this type of run would tie up so much working capital that it would dramatically effect our R&D investments into other projects and that would be a very poor business decision for us to make. If it were possible to build 50 or even 200 of these, I would consider it but at these quantities, our Sierra-1 cabinet maker would not even accept the order as it wouldn't be worth it to them as working with bamboo is extremely difficult.

I would really love to work with you on this but I really don't know what we can do at this point. You can always go with the high gloss black option, while it is not piano black -- perhaps it might work for you? I am not saying there is no possibility for a matching piano black center, but I don't want to make a promise we won't be able to keep and no matter what, we would not be able to keep to the time period you mentioned :(

The best option is really the local piano black build, which is expensive, but when considering the amazing price we are offering on the piano black towers right now it averages out nicely for the left/center/right. I would have to see what our local cabinet maker would charge us for piano black but also keep in mind that the $700 price we originally asked for (it actually went up in pricing) was for finishing the pair of towers...

Hope this better explains things :)

Hey Dave, my Sierra-1's came, haven't even opened them up yet (crazy I know), part of the reason being I have nothing to put them on for the time being. I found out the stands were on backorder when I made my BF purchase, any word on when those will come in and start shipping?

I would guess the stands will be available in about 7-8 more weeks, hopefully sooner but I can't make any promises. Thanks for your patience!

It would cost me less than $50 in total cost if I do it through my own auto workshop but I'm not sure solid black car paint can be considered piano black. But shiny black should be the same and hard to tell the difference. So it's probably a cheaper route as opposed to going real piano black. Granted it wouldn't be perfect unless the guy removes all the drivers etc prior to painting so that would cost more in labor. I also put them inside the oven for faster drying so that's a step that can be skipped.

Solid black car paint is definitely not the same as piano black finishing. Piano black typically consists of 3-4 paint layers and then 3-4 polyurethane layers. Each layer is finely sanded between coats and then the final coat is heavily buffed with a specialized wax. It is an extremely labor intensive process. That said, we used to have an autobody shop do a typical shiny black finish for us (like a black car) and while it was certainly not piano black, it wasn't too bad either and from a distance with dark lighting, difficult to tell apart...
