Years ago I bought the CMT340's for L/R Front & Center and the HTM-200's for L/S & R/S. My trusty old Yamaha had been acting up so I just recently replaced it with a Marantz SR5006 AV Receiver. Wired in to the old Classics and Rythmik Sub I needed something for a test run to see what I had. Well, it just so happened that I got a BluRay copy of "Transformers: Dark Side Of The Moon" in the mail that day. I know what you're thinking but at 66 I'm still a kid at heart. Anyway I fired it up and let it rip. WOW! I was afraid the windows would blow out. If you've seen this movie, you know what I mean. If not and you want your neighbors to move, rent this. The old and much used Classic CMT340's and HTM200's performed extremely well. After all these years they still sound just super. The Rythmik? Never sounded better. It's a beast! In the meantime my Sierra Towers in another room are sounding better than ever. Does anyone else have the Classic 340's? And how are they sounding?
Good Listening,
Tom

I think the newest Transformer blue-ray is the best sounding right now. Interesting how its in TrueHD vs. DTS HD MA in 2nd movie. The new TrueHD format is really amazing and now with this 96 stuff happening I cannot wait to purchase when it goes on sale somewhere. Now i'd be curious how it would sound with your towers and rythmic with your towers running down to say 40hz and your sub exercising its force below that.

The Audyssey MultiEQ XT set the L/R 340's at Small and cutoff at 40 Hz and the Sub at 120Hz which I thought peculiar. I reset the sub at 80Hz and left the 340's on Small. I think 40Hz seems a little on the low side for these speakers but the 340's handled everything that was thrown at them. I don't know what version this disc was as it came from Netlfix and the Marantz was set on "Auto". But I'll tell you I've never heard better seperation or a better soundfield.

I'm running classic 170s L/R, Classic 340 Center and Classic 200s for surrounds. Still loving life with these after 10 years. I am upgrading to Towers with a Sierra-1 center this summer though.

Tom, I believe that 120hz is the top end of the sub...you should leave it there.

Thanks Curtis for the advice. I'll reset it to 120. Blending the sub into the rest of the system always seems to be an experiment in trial, error and frustration. And I love every minute of it! I'll say this; The Rythmik replaced a famous maker sub. The difference to my ears is a much better definition, tighter bass with much more clarity. Not just a boom. Which is most important with music. And power? Yipes! It's a lease breaker. Should I leave the 340's at 40Hz? It seems a bit low but that's what was set by Audyssey. So far I like what I hear so maybe I shouldn't fix what's not broken.

Raise the 340's to 80Hz ;)

OK, I'll try 80Hz. BTW that's some system you have there!! That has got to be sweet.

Hey Tom,

For grins and giggles you can try 60hz too. I have the towers/horizon with 170SE as surrounds and a Rythmik FV15HP. I have tried 40, 60, and 80hz as crossover points. To my ear it sounds best at 60hz. Food for thought.

I love my Rythmik as well. It is a fantasic sub.

Enjoy!

RTROSE
