I have a pair of the Usher Be-718 Speakers. I wonder if anyone has opinions about how they would compare to the NrT's? Subjectively, the Ushers seem a little bright and are very sensitive to toe-in variations. The sound stage collapses with too much, and when in Blue-ray HT mode the human voices are diminished. (2.1 set up)

Towers are out of the game due to SAF. I have a high volume great room with 18 ft ceilings. A Martin Logan Depth i Sub participates.

I have had the Usher Be-718 in my room along side of the (standard) Sierra-1s, and thought they were excellent.

I did not find the Usher to be bright, and felt the Sierras held their own (at least one person that listened preferred my Sierras). This was about 4 years ago. (WOW..has it been that long?)

The Usher is a fair bit bigger than the Sierra (from L-R: Usher Be-718, KEF 201/2, Ascend Acoustics Sierra-1, Outlaw Audio BLS)

Since you feel the Usher to be bright, I would suggest trying the standard version of the Sierra-1 before the NrT version.

Curtis-

Thank You. Does the NrT have a different Tweeter than Sierra 1? I have wondered if it was the metal dome in the Ushers.

I am getting Cochlear recruitment. Tends to make my hearing off a bit.

I really enjoyed a lot of loud music in my life...

That is an impressive array there. I like the Ushers presence, for a Monitor.

How far from the wall do you have yours?

Yes...the Sierra-1 NrT and Sierra-1 have different tweeters (and crossovers). They are both soft domes, look almost identical from the front, but the rear and motor structure are very different.

I made an edit to my previous post...in the picture, the only speaker I own is the Sierra-1. The Usher and Kef were on loan from a local shop, and the Outlaw belonged to someone else and he loaned them to me.

The stands that were used for all the speakers are about 25" from the back wall, and 30" from the left wall...and more than that from the right wall.

Here is an older picture...the TV is now different, and the center is no longer on the top of the TV, but you can see the distances from the walls. It was similar when we listened to all those speakers, maybe shifted to the left by 5-6".

Hi Curtis, if it wouldn't be to much to ask...could you please provide a link to that session:o? That was a nice collection of monitors in that picture and I especially like reading threads of that nature.

Regards, Bill...:)

I'm curious about the Kef's and how they sounded. I'm a big fan of Kef because of their doplar research on enclosure vibrations/resonance. I really liked the sound Curtis has made in his setup and those Sierra's can rock. I'm bettin those kef's had a pretty thick baffle.

Hope things are cool Mr. Curtis :D

I'll have to look around. I don't remember if I started a dedicated thread or not for the listening session.

The KEF's sounded extremely clean. In my room, I think we all felt they were a bit bright, and I also remember something about the midrange that wasn't right for me, but there is a way to adjust tweeter output with how thing are configured on the back of the speaker. We didn't have a manual, and decided not to mess around with it since it was on loan to us.

All good here Brian...just really busy with kids and work. Hope everything is good on your end.

I just realized that I don't have a picture of my setup with the new TV, new position of the center channel, things shifted to the left by about a foot, and the HTM-200SE's as surrounds. I will clean up the room a bit and snap a couple of pictures when I get a chance.
