Well, after careful and deliberate consideration I went ahead and ordered
a set of lcr sierra's and 170s for lr surrounds!!!
I live on the east coast so the waiting game begins, but I know it will be well worth it!

I am coming from a polk monitor setup to the ascends so I kow the difference in quality
Will be substantial!

Going to keep my outlaw lfm~plus for now as its a fine sub but I fear a rythmic has my name on it in the not too distant future :-)

Will post my observations on their arrival.

Either Merry Christmas or happy birthday to you. It is always nice to have new toys. Maybe later in the year it will be my turn.

Congrats and welcome to the forum! I think you'll be very happy. Tell us about your setup, do you have a flat screen or projector? Is your setup in the living room or a dedicated room?

Thanks DougMac!

I have my setup in our living room
we have a brownstone in brooklyn, NY and the first floor is very open.
So while the house is not particularly wide its fairly long and narrow.
living room open to dining room open to kitchen.
we view and listen at one end sitting width wise so our left side is open to the rest of the floor.
I have Polk monitor 60s for L&R a cs2 for center and a pair of monitor 30s for
surrounds
my receiver is a Pioneer elite SC-37, topped off with an outlaw LFM-1 plus sub.

for a newbie this setup is not bad but, being new unfortunately does not provide immunity from upgrade-itis :-D

My Sierra's and 170s shipped today so, should be about a week !!!

Impressions soon after.

Oh and we watch a samsung 8000 series LCD
Its 46 inches but I am gonna try and convince my lady that a 60 inch plasma
is what we really "need"
(wish me luck)

According to UPS tracking my Sierras' should be arriving on Tuesday by end of day !!!
I am stoked to get these bad boys set up in my system !
I'm so excited i am re-reading the Sierra thread over on AVSForum LOL !

They haven't even gotten halfway here yet and I am already thinking about an external amp and pre-amp for 2 channel listening, YIKES ! I must have the bug bad :-)

Are they there yet?:D

Something tells me you will be doing a whole lot of listening and not much posting in the next couple of days.

LOL !!!
They're HERE !

Just listened to a bit of music, some blu-ray and some cable tv.
Obviously they are brand new and will require a bit of break in, having said that, they sound sooooooo good !!!

I replaced polk monitor 60s, a cs2 and monitor 30s and man o man what a difference!
I have a fairly nice receiver and a good sub (pioneer elite sc-37 and outlaw lfm-1 +) so things were not sounding bad with the polks.
Now however, the soundscape seems to have widened and become more broad somehow.

its early days and i am not an audiophile by any stretch but i surely hear a very perceptible
improvement in my listening/viewing environment!

Not to mention the piano black is awesome! the pedestal stands rock!
and the 170s are really great as LR surrounds !!!

I will report back soon but i already love these speakers !!!

Congrats on your new toys! I will be so curious how your Advanced MCACC will see your Sierra's. What's so cool is that you will be able to save those calibrations and view them. I would so love to dig into that advanced mcacc with that setup. Your speakers will absorb that Direct Energy Amplification for sure! Please keep me posted on your mcacc settings after you let them break in a little, that would be awesome. So many options, so little time...

That's on heck of a early b-day present for sure :D

Brian in Bakersfield...

btw, looking into getting an Elite myself just for the Advanced MCACC

thanks guys
in case you couldn't guess, I'm pretty stocked about my new Ascends!
Brian i will definitely give you the lowdown as i begin to delve in the inner workings of MCACC, I am still getting used to it as I had an Okyo 708 prior to getting the Pioneer.

i'm bummed because I have to go out of town from thursday till sunday so I wont have anytime to play with my new toys!
But, traveling is how I make the donuts to buy this stuff and duty calls.
