New subwoofer setup help needed!!

I'm happy to say I just purchased a used HSU vtf-3 mk2 subwoofer.
It seemed like such a good deal ($325) that I drove from NJ up to Boston today (4 hrs each way) to get it before it was gone. Gas and tolls make it more like a $375 purchase.

That said, I have NO IDEA how to set it up well, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Think of me as stupid and you as an elementary school teacher when describing the setup!! ;-)

I'm sure there are a lot of folks here who would be interested in helping you. Before we can, you need to give us a basic idea of your setup. Starting from source (CD/DVD player?) what equipment do you have? Player -> receiver -> speakers? Player -> preamp -> power amp -> speakers? Player -> integrated amp -> speakers? What input/output options are supported - if you're using a receiver or integrated amp, does it have a sub out? Separate pre out/main in jacks? What else is connected? Inquiring minds want to know...
