I know this will sound nuts, BUT.........If speakers (or more specifically) tweeters should be at ear level, then would that be true of a sub? I mean a sub just used for music, and not for HT. If a sub is supposed to help fill in the lower frequencies of the left and right channel, it seems to me that it should be at the same height as the speakers. Is this true, or am I just nuts?

Thanks

Jim

frequencies below 80-100hz are non-directional, so height shouldn't matter.

I assumed as much Curtis. Back in my youth (a long time ago) no one had a sub, speakers were what we had. I know that lower frequencies are "omni" directional, I am just wondering if it would sound better if I raised a sub somehow. I don't think I am concerned enough to try it, mine weighs a ton.
I run my Sierra's without a sub anyway, just one of my random thoughts.

If it is easy to try..go for it.

Moving a sub in any direction can/will change its room response.

Curtis is correct. The lower the frequency, the longer the wavelength. The longer the wavelength, the less directional it becomes. An 80Hz wavelength is just over 14ft long while a 6kHz wavelength is just over 2 inches. It is because high frequency wavelengths are so short that placing tweeters at ear-level is recommended...

What it might change though are the room nulls and peaks, I remember reading a paper on multiple subs and I believe it also adressed sub heights, but I don't really remember the details...
