Guage question

Is it imperative to run the same guage speaker wire to all channels?

Nice, but not imperative. Of course this is an abstract answer assuming "normal" gauges and "normal" lengths. I see no problem with running 12awg up front and 14awg for surrounds, assuming (conservatively) the run is not longer than 50 feet.

Can you give us some details?
