Sierra-1 Question

i just ordered a set of Sierra 1's for the front, and HTM-200 for surrounds. I will be operating without a center channel. The system will be powered by an emotiva 125 watt amp, with marantz receiver. My sierras will be positioned 10-12 inches maximum from the front wall. Also, due to my setup, the speakers will only be around 40 inches apart. My room is 14 x 13 . Eventually, I plan on increasing there distance apart to 60 inches. However, they will always have to be 10-12 inches from the front wall? I know this is terrible positioning of the Sierras. Do you think they will sound crappy? If they do, I know it is not the speaker's fault.

How far will you be sitting from the speakers? Ascend recommends that the distance between the speakers be .73 the distance between the listening position and a point midway between the speakers. Gross variances will affect imaging.

Some quick math suggests these speaker distances. If your room is 14' deep and you have the ideal seating position .66 (2/3) from the front wall, your speakers should be roughly 6' (72") apart. If the depth is 13' then they should be ~5 1/2' (66") apart. Both calculations assume the speakers 1' from the wall. If you can accomplish your 60" separation and your room is 13' deep and you sit 2/3 back, you should be in pretty good shape. Your soundstage might not be big.

Thank you for the advice. I am greatly anticipating the arrival of the speakers next week. They are replacing aperion brand 5B's. The aperion's were not bad for $225 each. But they were low sensitivity, and hard to get sound out of. Even when I do space them farther apart eventually, do you see a need for a center channel? I do not have one. After all my fronts are pretty close together, and my room is only 14x13.
