170's vs x-ls

Hey everyone, I currently own a pair of 170SEs and I am looking to set my parents up with a pair of speakers. I am considering the x-ls because #1 it is cheaper and #2 it does look nicer. I love my Ascends but I am not sure my parents would appreciate the difference between them and the x-ls. I do realize the refurbished 170's have some very attractive pricing. Could anyone comment on what I may be giving up by going with the x-ls? Dave? Feel free to talk me into Ascends.


I would love to get Sierras and give my 170s to my parents but my checking account says 'no.'

Hey Jacob.

From what I understand, the new version of the X-LS is not immediately available. It is a high value speaker.

If you do not think your parents would be able to appreciate the sound differences, then I would go with what is more aesthetically pleasing to them.
