I am currently running my Sierra's in a 2 channel rig without a sub. I tend to crank it up and head outside to enjoy this Autumn weather. Would adding a sub help with the output of these speakers? Don't get me wrong, I love the Sierras, they just don't project for lack of a better word for a larger area.
Thanks in advance.

Peace,

Jim

If you want to hear your music from outside, you may need a set of "party" speakers, such as Klipsch. You are not going to be critically listening from outside, so that should work. I was at Craig's G2G in Sept. He was running some Klipsch Kornwalls + an Elemental Designs sub from his garage, and it sounded fantastic!

Thanks Ed.

So, my take is that a sub wouldn't help much with the Sierra's? I'd love a pair of Klipsch or tannoys, but I may just "settle" for what I have.

Peace,

Jim

Just buy this (http://www.shopping.com/xPO-GPX-Portable-AM-FM-Cassette-Boom-Box)? :p Somewhat seems weird that you went with Sierras if you were going to listen from other rooms, maybe you could have gotten a pair of these (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Behringer-EUROLIVE-B212-Passive-2Way-Loudspeaker-Pair?sku=600476) or something like these (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/428975-REG/JBL_STADIUM_STADIUM_Venue_Series_Dual.html) instead.

I guess a sub would help, you could crossover to 160hz and alleviate the load of the Sierras, I guess you could then play them louder...

Like I said before, I love the Sierra's, I listen outside for about a month a year, the rest of the time, I am blissfully happy. I'd love a pair of klipschorns, but sadly my wallet is not that thick.
Thanks for the links.

Peace,

Jim

Btw, are you clipping the amp/speakers at the volume required to listen to them outside? What I'd be worried, is that with dynamic music, they might not clip when you're there and setting the volume, but they might do so when on some of the music louder passages and if you're not there to hear it... Well, I'm not sure how well you could hear it from outside...

Even with a sub crossed over at 160hz, I'd be somewhat worried about clipping, but since <160hz would go to sub, it would happen at a higher volume. But never the less, it might still happen, and if you're not there to lower the volume when it happens, then you might damage the speakers...

GirgleMirt,

I am just leaving well enough alone. One of the things I always seem to forget is that I live alone, when I'm alone (no company) volume doesn't mean as much as when i am trying to talk to someone. Ultimately, The volume is fine, and I am back to being a contented camper. No clipping or other issues, but thanks for the thought.

Peace,

Jim
