Yep. They do look bad. I had these and they looked odd with 340s, but look real nice with Sierra. I'll post some pics this weekend.

I'm not sure that gloss black would look good (to me) next to any black that isn't also gloss. I may go the other way and get something like white marble pedastools or do a "floating shelf" that you can't see at all. I don't know. Have to get the wife involved for this one.

I think this one may look better. Cheaper too.

I'm taking a serious look at these: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=240-802&scqty=1

They're even on sale at the moment, making them $25 cheaper than racksandstands.com with shipping included.

http://www.studiotech.com/products/speaker_stands/ultra_series/index.htmlThe Black Ash / Black might look nice with the piano black. Dave should see if he can get Studio Tech to make these stands with the wood covered with the same piano black finish used on the Sierras.

Point of note: In the photo, the piano black Sierra is on a Studio Tech US-24 in the oak veneer. Whatever one's opinion of this look, we have also demoed the cherry veneer model and that has a different look, nicer IMO.

If you want a slightly better deal, I bought mine from amazon for $3 more and free shipping. Plus they actually have one in stock.

Hey Darkwolf -

Thanks for the head's up. I was able to cancel that portion with PE and snag the one at amazon this morning. Sweet! You just saved me about $15 :) The amazon one won't ship until the 2nd  , but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night...

Just stopped in to let people know, Parts Express has a free shipping deal going on now, looks like those Sanus Steel stands are included.

If anyone has received these stands, I'd be interested in your thoughts.

Thanks
John

Great, give us some impressions when you get a chance. Hope they work out well for you.

The stands are pretty nice. They are typical textured black finish on fairly heavy steel - I would have preferred a smoother texture, but this is fine. Some assembly is required, but nothing hard (only a screwdriver is needed). They come with basic spikes and rubber bumpers for feet. Three options for the top plate: rubber bumpers, speaker spikes (if you don't mind dings in your speakers) and a center bolt (for certain types of speakers with a threaded connection).

While they say the two tubes are fillable with sand/shot, they aren't really IMO. The have very small holes in the top and bottom for filling and you'd have to be sure they were securely attached at the bottom first so they didn't leak.

Overall, I think they are a very good option, particularly for this price. No pictures now, but maybe tomorrow.

A couple of nice touches on the Sanus stands I just received...

They include thin cork disks that go between the top plate and the pillars that make for a nice, non-rubbing fit. There is a plastic piece that goes between the bottom plate and the pillars too.

Having cable guides is nice, although they aren't fancy. Just thin pieces of plastic that go between the pillars and the top and bottom plates. They have loops that hang out to run your cable through. They look kind of flimsy, but seem to do the job. They wouldn't work if you have really thick cables.

I like that they provide both rubber tips and spikes for both the bottom and top plates.

They were packaged well and there should be very little chance of damage (unless something stabs through the box).

Here are some pics:

I used to have those stands. Good quality stands. They are definitely fillable. I filled them with sand and had no problems.

Just ordered a pair of the Sanus 26" stands to go with the Sierra 1's I just ordered today. Hope they work well!

Parts Express is in my backyard more or less so unfortunately I'll have the stands before I have the Sierra's.

FWIW, I just finished a pair of my own stands for $20 of oak and mdf and maybe $10 in stain, primer, paint, and topcoat. It was among the easiest projects I've ever done, and allowed me to cut custom mount holes and bolt the 170s directly to the "seats." I also filled 'em with sand, so these babies are going nowhere despite the industrious destructiveness of my 3-year-old twins.

Their height was a concession to WAF but with a 5-degree uptilt they still sound quite nice. Sure, I didn't nail the ascend finish (didn't really try) and I still have some wire organization to finish, but not bad for $30.

Tonight. But I'll need your Sierras shipped to me to make sure I can match the finish ;)
