So when will the website have the new SE pictures for all of us to drool over?? Anyone (Dave) have any estimates?

The SE's don't really look a whole lot different. With the grilles on...and from sides and front...they look exactly the same. :D

Without the grille, it takes some inspection to see that the tweeter is different, and even a closer look that the mid-woof is different.

I'm looking for higher-res photos showing the newer, sexy drivers ;)

(Now don't ruin it for me by saying they look the same  )

If I had SE's, I'd take some pictures for you. :)

Whenever I get off my butt, I'll send my 170s in for the SE treatment, then you can see some really sexy SEs. :D

Since I have been blessed with a set of SE speakers and a digital camera, I've taken some high res closeups.

Hi Guys,

Pics are being worked on.. I have been forced to change photographers so I apologize for the delay. We should have CBM-170 SE pics processed and uploaded sometime over the weekend. 340 SE by the following week...

Thanks for your patience!

I might have to report those pics as "offensive/adult content"
They are just too sexy :p

Thanks Swank! The woofers do look the same, but the tweeter dome looks different.

Dave, thanks for the update! I'm waiting patiently for the green light on sending you my 170's for heart surgery

Edit: After looking at the woofer close-up shot again, it appears the phase plug is made of metal instead of plastic like on my 170's......can anyone confirm this?

I must have missed that somehow

Do you have a link to the thread Curtis? Is this change new to the SE's, or was the original Aerogel woofer modified at some point also?

The SE change includes an updated version of the woofer as well.

I know the SE has an all new woofer. The pictures are of the SE's drivers. What I'm asking is....did the classic 170's woofer change from the plastic plug to a metal one prior to the SE version woofer?

I know there was a change because my friend's newer 170 classics have a different plug than mine. I'm not sure if the difference is plastic vs metal though. He said his are more "ogive".

Hi Guys,

We went from a plasic "stubby" phase plug to a more expensive aluminum phase plug about 1.5 yrs ago. Aluminum helps heatsink the motor assembly = greater power handling / less heat geneation at higher power levels... the longer plug also provides even better dispersion...

Yes... there are some "classics" out there with the aluminum phase plug..

Take care!

I bought my 340 and 170 "Classics" sometime in the summer of '04. They all have the aluminum phase plug. If they changed about a year and a half ago, then I must have been some of the first "Classics" to get the new ones.
