View Full Version : Thought I would share some news... and a contest!

I am a quiet person in general and rarely share personal information with anyone but this community of OURS has grown and I am so happy with the respect and comradery, I just had to share the news with all of you...

As some of you know, I have been working some very late nights recently... and there is a reason (besides the fact we are swamped)

I am happy to say that there is another future loudspeaker designer on the way...

.
.
.
.

...And I found out that I will have a potential new hire just a few days ago...

.
.
.
.

I won't know for at least 12 more weeks whether this future engineer will be a boy or girl (hoping girl, but my son wants a brother which is absolutely cool with me)

My wife's ecstatic, as is my family (which has needed some good news over the past year a half as some of you well know) so all is good :D

Just thought I would share the news with my "extended" family :)

So....

Place your bets below... "Boy" or "Girl" and weight to the ounce.

Ascend baseball caps to the first 50 members who guess the sex.

A pair of CBM-170 SE to the first five members who nail the weight to the ounce.

Please, one guess only per member (you can change it as often as you wish by editing the post).

My guess (won't count of course, just for fun):

Boy, 7lbs 10 ounces

Good luck!!!

Well done. As a guy who is now on my second set of newborns, this time as a very happy grandfather, I would like to wish you and your wife one of each, both of whom are happy and healthy, and have lungs worthy of being heard.

That said, I am guessing a girl at 7 pound, 8 ounces.

I'm reminded of that quote from The Incredibles:

[to Mr. Incredible]
Syndrome: Oh, no. Elastigirl? You married Elastigirl? Ho, ho, ho...
[sees the kids]
Syndrome: Oh - and got biz-zay! It's a whole family of supers! Looks like I hit the jackpot! Oh, this is just too good! :D

My sincere congratulations to you and your wife, Dave! :)

I'll put my vote in for a little lady (my vote counts), and I'll guess 6lbs 10oz. I know nothing about babies, and I can't believe everyone is guessing like 7 or 8 lbs...I was born at about 4lbs 2oz and went into the high 3's! I guess I have a skewed perspective , heh :o

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the wishes! My wife is also enjoying reading the comments.

Special congrats to Chas, GrahamMC and Nhan who are also expecting :D

Just so there is no confusion, (I am not sure if I was clear) I will award the first 5 members who guess the weight to the ounce. It is OK to guess the same weight as someone else, I just don't recommend being the 6th person to do so...

This might be helpful.

Our first was 8lbs even, 19.5 inches (Boy).

I will announce the sex once we know and I suspect some of you might be changing your weight predictions. Although, I really don't know if average newborn weights are different between boys or girls...

Hi guys...

Much thanks! Dina has really enjoyed reading (and laughing) at all the great comments.. She is having a tough time with morning sickness, more like all-day sickness.. Lots of nausea..

She had no morning sickness at all with our first (which was a boy) so she is convinced this is a girl...

Got any names picked out yet?

Since she is *convinced* it is a girl, the top names so far are:

Jennifer
Gabrielle (I don't like this one)
Amanda

FWIW, she was convinced our first would be a girl too.. she even went as far as dangling a ring from a string over her belly.. If it turned one way --boy-- the other -- girl --... It turned in the direction of a girl and I was happy when I got to say "I told you so" at how silly that was... Then again, I recently purchase a magical clock that makes every sound system in my home sound much better ;)

BJG2005
02-21-2006, 10:13 AM
Sorry to hear about the morning sickness. My wife had a similar all-day sickness experience. She recommends wristbands. You can get them at most pharmacies. They have a bead that puts pressure on the wrist and nausea is diminhed.

I vote girl, 8#, 1 oz.

TomK
02-22-2006, 02:57 PM
Can't help you with the morning sickness but I've got the name figured out; Amanda. Try saying the whole name. It just rolls off the tongue. BTW my wife was supposed to have an Erin but ended up having a Tom. But what did they know back in 1974?

TomK

curtis
02-22-2006, 03:26 PM
Tell your wife not to hope for a girl too much. My Mom wanted a girl so bad...she ended up with three boys.

I like both Amanda and Jennifer, but I lean toward Jennifer because you can say "Jen" or "Jenny" for short.

BJG2005
02-23-2006, 05:28 AM
When I mentioned the morning sickness to my wife, she went on and on. For her, not letting her stomach get empty was critical. She essentially always carried some fresh fruit with her and ate all day - just a little bit. Berries, melon...

Btw, since the reason we're all on this forum is speakers, I'll mention that I got the SEs almost a month ago. Very happy. My wife is ecstatic, which is a pleasant bonus. The other day, she called me from another room to come listen when she played "Dark side of the Moon" so I could hear how good it sounds. When I played another album, Jazz at the Pawnshop, she didn't recognize it at first (and I've played it 100s of times). It's a live jazz album that opens in a club with glasses clinking. She says she never heard that part.

Congratulations! And good luck!

I won't know for at least 12 more weeks whether this future engineer will be a boy or girl (hoping girl, but my son wants a brother which is absolutely cool with me)

hey Dave,

That original post is dated 1/31 and it's 5/9 today...isn't that way past 12 weeks already?

Just curious... (fingers tapping nervously while visions of a pair of 170SEs dance through my head) :D

woops, I didn't read closely enough...he meant 12 weeks to figure out the baby's gender not for the actual birth!

...which means roundabouts Halloween!!! sigh.

btw I don't remember if he's announced the gender yet?

Hey Eddie... 12 week pregnancy? I can guarantee my wife would love that ;) Maybe I could speed things up a bit by pumping 18Hz out of a Hsu VTF-3 into our bedroom while my wife sleeps.. you know, loosen things up in there :p

We do know the sex and I will keep the contest open for a few more weeks.. at which time I will announce if it is a boy or a girl. Until then.. good luck!

All right --- I suppose it is time to close the contest and make the *first* announcement :D

Dina and I are happy to say that it will now be VERY doubtful that I will have a new engineer to dump my projects on.... more likely an attorney, doctor --- or nurse..

Yup... its a GIRL :D :D

Those of you who won HATS --- please send me an email or PM with your contact info and a shipping address.

Oh... Dina and I were thrilled with the news but my 4 yr old son is in denial.. He says, "but daddy, girls are ugly"

I share your pain. My oldest daughter went to her first prom. Before the big night I set the rules. It went like this... NO holding hands, NO sitting close to him in the car, NO slow dancing, NO eye to eye contact and definitely NO kissing and hugging! I kindly offered to explain the rules to her date...she quickly declined.

Afternoon everyone and thank you so much for all the kind wishes!

Nicole Sara Fabrikant took her first breath of Los Angeles air at 12:45pm on Thursday (yesterday)...

We had some minor complicatons that gave me quite a scare -- but after about 2 hours of ICU -- our little baby girl was fine.. On her way out she took a few too many gulps of embryonic fluid that got into her lungs. This had to be drained before she was able to properly breathe on her own. From what we were told, this is not uncommon with c-section deliveries. Nicole was breathing on her own by 3:00pm yesterday :)

Been a tiring past 24-hours but Dina and Nicole are doing great -- I am exhausted and home for a quick nap. My little girl is just adorable -- a perfect 19" of cuteness. I do have some pictures but these will have to wait before I post them. Got to get at least an hour or two of sleep before I head back to the hospital...

Oh yeah -- almost forgot ;) 7 lbs 5 oz ...

as for the complications, when i was born i had a severe staff infection so i was under intensive care for the first couple days of my life. i actually got put on a plane in a little incubator box thing and flown to a different hospital that specialized in child care. i bet that must have done a number on my parents...

i hope you and your wife have a wonderful time raising your new child.

Woohoo - congrats. I'm glad all parties are doing well.

I was actually down at Chirdren's Hospital last night to check on my niece (minor surgery) and was having flashbacks to her birth and the ensuing days at CH. The IICU/PICU is brutal on the nerves - IIRC, the docs in Seattle at the IICU did two weeks on and six weeks "off" (doing research, etc) to avoid burnout.
