Whats a good price for 340's purchased 1 year ago? Or I should I wait for the SE's? Would like to know ASAP.

Thanks, Daman

I would say the original price less the cost to upgrade them to SE's.

Not near enough info to make a comment. No one except Ascend has even heard the 340SE's.

OK. That's a good formula if the used 340's are in excellent condition.

What kind of quotes are you guys getting to upgrade?!? My 340s are about a year and a half old. I was quoted $180 a piece to upgrade, plus shipping. Probably works out to $400 all told. By your formula, my 340 classics are only worth $170. WAY too low, IMO. I see 'em going for $400+ on Audiogon. As it stands, I can't see the sense in paying for the upgrade over selling the classics and buying a new set of SEs...

Now you have me wondering whether you got a sweeter deal... Hope it isn't verboten to discuss this, as I'm been a bit confused by the math ever since I got my quote...

I tend to agree with the "bull. Ascends are legendary for holding resale value. $400 for classics should still be attainable for 340's in good condition. On the other hand, if/when I upgrade I doubt I will let my classics go...I like them too much.

No...you are right, my math is bad. I was thinking $180/pr.

I am still undecided on exactly what I will do.

I am actually leaning toward buying three 340SE's, keeping my classic 170's as surrounds, and shipping my classic 340's to my brother and his family in Amherst.

But, I may also upgrade since I don't have to worry about shipping costs.

In the end, I have just now really started thinking about it because I haven't had a whole lot of time to enjoy my system as of late.

Thanks, but no thanks. As I was trying to point out, that's still a ridiculously low price for speakers of this quality, which cost nearly $600 less than 2 years ago. People are still paying more than that for used 170s. The last couple sets of 340s that sold on Audiogon went for > $450, so if you can get that deal for $365 I'd jump all over it...
