Speaker help with new theater

Just building my home theater (11x23) using a front projector Pan PT-AE900U. I am looking for speakers to go with my Onkyo TX-SR803. Just started reading about Ascends and they sound pretty good. I have some questions -
My price range is around $900-$1200 give or take a few dollars.

I kinda have some reservations about buying something like this and not being able to hear them first. Whats your feelings on this?

I will be watching movies 60% of the time, HD cable movies and sports 30% and music 10%. What would be a good combination for this price range?

Do these speakers work well with Onkyo?

These speakers work well with any decent piece of equipment. I've hooked up my 340's and 200's to my Onkyo receiver and have enjoyed the results. You will too.
