Default Horizon as a back surround speaker

Good ideal or not ? Use a pair of Horizons for rear surrounds ?
I want a more dynamic surround speaker, I am using 170s for now and at times they sound a little strained , the system has been calibrated by Jeff Meier from Accucal , Yes I like to play to very loud at times , want some headroom .

    Thanks Mark

If you're using Front 170 and Rear Horizon....I'd switch them up.

I wouldn't use a better speaker in the rears than the fronts, since the fronts do most of the heavy lifting.

How about just getting what you have in the front?

Fronts are to costly to match , audio mixes are getting more aggressive in the rear channels , I would love to do full range matching speakers in all 5 channels but I am thinking the Horizon may fit the bill for rear channels ,cant think of any downsides other than cost , size and weight , but I have room in the rear placement for the Horizon .

Most definitely -- with the exceptionally wide and linear dispersion of the Horizon (especially the ribbon version), these would make fantastic surrounds if you can fit them.

Put the two horizons in the front and put the towers in the back as surrounds?

I know exactly which speakers you have. Those are some very capable tower speakers. RAAL Horizons in the back would work perfectly with that system. Not overkill IMO.

BTW, I'm assuming your Raal Horizon center matches well with your towers? If so, that is pretty impressive for the Horizon, considering the price difference.
