Has anyone tried or considered running dual center channels? I am in the middle of a rennovation, and I was thinking of this as a possibility. Would there be any ill effects?
Thanks

Well, you're not going to be able to hook them up in parallel, unless your amp can handle the very low impedance.

Hitachi 57F59 HD CRT RPTV
Outlaw 990/7125 PrePro/Amp
Panasonic BD10 Blu-Ray Player
Mains: Ascend CMT-340M
Center: Ascend CMT-340C
Surrounds: Ascend CBM-170

It's a 4 ohm load, not inconcievable. And if I use a pro amp, I can use two 8ohm loads and run the amp in paralell.Originally Posted by Lee Bailey
The impedance is an average, not a constant, depending on the frequency. Look at the charts here online, you'll see it dipping below the 8 ohm mark. Usually if your amp can't handle it, it will shut itself down.

okay, let's not argue semantics...hypothetically speaking, if you have an amp that can handle the load, would it sound good?
I think it should work fine if the amp can handle the load.
What I have read some people do is split the input signal into two amps and then run a center speaker off of each amp. This was not with a CMT-340c however.

Here's a recent thread on a similar topic. Once you look past the minor mudslinging there's some substance to the thread.

Thanks Jim, that pretty much sums it up for me. I don't need another center, I just thought it was a cool idea.
Talk about bashing...that thread had a ton of shi* slinging...
Yeah, I guess "minor mudslinging" as I put it is a bit understated.

Curtis - Sorry, I had skipped right over your post. So you think it would work. Hmmm...I wonder what Dave would say?? Maybe he'll chime in. I just think it would be cool to have two center channels, but I would have to run them side by side; which some people on Jim's link said shouldn't be done.
