I'll tell you my secret to tilting my center channel: rubber door stoppers. I also put a piece of that no-slip foam-rubber sheeting under the front edge (local hardware store had some in black). I've never had any problems with it sliding.

57 inches is not too high at all. Both the CBM-170 and the 340 center have wide vertical directivity. Tilting them downward can certainly help a bit, I wouldn't recommend an angle no greater than 4-5 degrees.
The key issue is the vertical angle you are at from the speakers. How far back are you from the speakers?

Hi Dave, it's about 15.5 feet from the speakers to where I will be sitting. I'm terrible with math, so I can't tell you the angle
