Default Are you setup as 5.1 or 7.1 ?

I'm still trying to strike a balance b/w movies, music & aesthetics, so am having a hard time deciding b/w the Ascend speakers. Was wondering if it's really worth it to go 7.1 in my room (16 x 14; 2200 cu ft w/ vaulted ceiling). Will I notice much difference in my small-ish room? If you have 7.1, what Ascends do you have as surrounds & rears?

I would just go 5.1 in that size room.

I'm still using 5.1. Just don't feel like running another pair of wires to the back of the room. Though I do now have an unused pair of Polk RT15i's that would work fine back there.

    I have 7.1 in a 14x18 room, used to be 5.1.

If you have good locations for 5.1, the change to 7.1 won't be a huge upgrade in sound....a bit more enveloping, that's about it.

I had the luxury of remodeling the 2 patios into bed and family room which turns out to be my HT room so all the wires are hidden behind the wall.

    340, 170, 200 in 7.1 setup.

For anyone of interested, I "mount" the 340 because I use projector instead of TV. Actually, I shelf the 340 horizontally at 20 degree point down using the 14'' TV mount from Circuit City. They look neat.

"20 degree point " is not accurate, it's more like 10 degree or less.

5.1 for now, but we are having a house built that will have a 14W x 26L x9H room downstairs for the theater. I'll order either another pair of 170's or another pair of 340's for side surrounds and use my existing 170's for rear.
