Hybrid SACD's contain a "redbook" PCM layer wich works just like a normal CD. If it sounds any different, its because they mastered it that way.

And remember that not all Hi-Res is surround, The vast majority of audiophiles are perfectly happy with 2-channel. I personally don't think I'll ever set-up a audiophile quality 5.1 system, not only would it be ungodly expensive, but I'd basically need a whole seperate room to put it in (5 tower speakers aranged in a semi-circle are never going to be fashionable).

You can always put your Avant-Garde trios next to your TV if you need to.
