I have spent a good amount of time listening to the Ascend 340s - they have detail that is definitive but smooth, are very dynamic, capable of putting out a fairly good amount of base, and very pleasant to listen to for prolonged periods. If you don't like bright speakers, I would definitely suggest giving them a listen. Solidly constructed and worth notably more than they cost.
I am referring to the LR version of the new center channel (340c). Amazing customer service.

I use the CMT-340 as mains....before that the CBM-170's (they are my surrounds now). They are a more dynamic speaker and a little more forward than the 170, and more bass. The 5 speakers....three 340's and two 170's blend very well in home theater and multi-channel music.

The 340's can also be played louder than the 170 and they have a nice wide dispurtion.

If you are in the market for a $500/pr speaker....these are something definitely worth checking out.

Just so people can get an idea of what the CMT-340 looks like on the custom stand:

I paid $140 for the stands and purchased them with the 340s. I have had the 340s for about 30 days and will be keeping these for sure as I now have 2 complete Ascend systems.

Same great sound as the 170 (a bit warmer and a wider presentation) and they can really fill a large room loudly with no listening fatigue.

    Love 'em!

    Great Randy!

Interesting that you think they are warmer than the 170's.

    Thanks Randy!

Could you also tell me how much the 340s are going for as a pair, or is it as simple as doubling the price of the center channel?

    I believe a pair of 340s is $500.
