Re: New Sierra 1s and a dead Yamaha AVR???
billy p - perhaps, but he did say he hooked up the computer and cable box to the AVR and AVR HDMI out to TV. CEC/ARC can be buggy (I never use it - I'm running an optical cable from my LG into my MRX720).
I'm thinking either a configuration/setup issue (eg inputs not configured correctly) or worse case, AVR is bad. I thought maybe an HDMI board but has same issue with analog/RGA.

Re: New Sierra 1s and a dead Yamaha AVR???
The key questions in my mind:
"Do you get sound when trying the FM (or AM?) radio?"
"Do the test tones make sound?"

Re: New Sierra 1s and a dead Yamaha AVR???
Thanks for the advice.
I tried FM/AM Radio: No sound
I tried Auto set-up YPAO: Couldn't start, no sound
I confirmed that the AVR is set to 8 Ohms
I confirmed that HDMI Control and ARC are both off
I think the AVR is bad...

Re: New Sierra 1s and a dead Yamaha AVR???
well, that's not good. Probably why it was gifted...
anyways, two last things to try (if possible), see if you can find the last firmware for it and reinstall. Maybe, just maybe, the firmware got corrupted. Secondly, make sure HDMI / CEC / whatever it's called is also off in your TV and source devices (if they have)
Otherwise, looks like you need to buy a new AVR unless you have an older one you can use.

Yamaha trouble shooting for this

Hopefully, it's not the third bullet if no test tones....

one more thing -- try the tuner (FM/AM) again but in pure direct mode. If you get sound, it is likely an HDMI board and probably not worth fixing as I believe the 720 is several years old.

Yeah - I'll be replacing it.
