Default Room Acoustics - A "meta" page.

    Howdy!

I would like to compile lots of good stuff about correcting room acoustics issues in the typical home setup (2 channel, 5 channel, etc). I will start by putting in these forum links (in order of newest to oldest). This is not a comprehensive list. This is just a "my brief glance" list. I dug through the old threads in the technical part of the forum and found these. They are ordered from newest (top) to oldest (bottom).

Does anyone here have some good links they can share? It can be "how-to", theories, products and product home pages, names of professionals and their phone numbers, links to other threads of other forums, anything at all. It can be EQ (such as MiniDSP). It can be acoustic paneling. Speaker positioning. How to calibrate correctly. How to correctly interpret room measurements. Lists of competing theories (and where they agree or disagree), etc. Anything. Try to list your BEST stuff. Your personal FAVORITE stuff. Everything is welcome. Your can write a novel if you want, or you can write a pithy one-liner from your iphone with half the words misspelled! And, if all you know is what YOU did to your room, great! Please share what has worked for you! What sounded good to you? You can be as objective or subjective as your little heart desires.
You're in the judgement-free zone just like Planet Fitness! This is the judgement-free zone of correcting room acoustics, baby.

I'm just trying to make this thread DENSE with good links and information. Not just for myself, but for others who are new to Ascend and maybe new to treating room acoustics. All information is welcome. It could be hard to understand and technical, or simple and practical. If all you want to do is share some links, great!

And, if you have any suggestions like "Jonny, you don't need to do all this Jonny, listen Jonny, all you need is this." Well, let me know that too!

    Thanks everybody!!

P.S. - I know there's one of you wise guys out there that is gonna say "So and so over at this other forum has already done this!" Well well well... you know what to do now, don't you?

This is a presentation by Dr. Floyd Toole called "Sound reproduction – art and science/opinions and facts".
Here are some points that I took away from this presentation:
-We are influenced by what we see (our biases). Biases removed, we can see how the room can very much affect what we hear. (The room is very important, especially for bass frequencies).
-There are room acoustics problems and speaker design problems that room EQ cannot fix.
-The importance of neutrality in loudspeaker design ("circle of confusion")
-Some neat graphs showing different kinds of measurements and how they compare.

I very much enjoyed this presentation! Food for thought.

I've seen GIK mentioned numerous times on this forum as well as others, so I wanted to put a link here to their "Educational Videos" section on their site. I have no experience with GIK or any other room acoustics company, but these videos look good.

Here is RealTraps! Looks like some good info on here as well.

I love Home Theater Geeks. It's amazing what you can learn while doing cardio at the gym.
