    Question Getting ready to upgrade...

I'm looking seriously at Ascend to upgrade from a Vizio 5.1 HTIB (great gateway product). Two questions:

    1) Because of budget, I'm looking at 170s front, 340 center, and 200s rear. I really prefer smaller rears and want to put a little more $ to center. Are these all well matched in that config?

    2) For sub, I cannot afford any of the Ascends, so I'm looking at something under $300 to get me started, like Polk, BIC, or possibly NHT. Is there a particular brand/model of inexpensive sub folks would recommend that would cross nicely with the kit in 1)?

Nice to be here, thanks in advance.

If you can stretch it, I think the L12 would be a great sub to start with.

Thanks, Ben. I hope so too. I was hoping to put the extra money into an Oppo, but that might be the purchase I defer for now. My total budget is 1500 and I also need a basic AVR, but I want most of the money to go to speakers.

I think that would be good idea. I just would hate to see you "waste" money on a cheaper sub when I think you'd be very happy with the L12. As far as the speakers you chose, all of them share the same tweeter and for your fronts the same woofer. The 200's are still voice matched and sound great. My father in law has the same system you are building (but has the LV12R instead of the L12). In terms of finding a good receiver, a lot of the guys on here suggest using these guys to get some great deals (http://www.accessories4less.com). Good luck!

Greatly appreciate your time and thoughts, Ben. I'm definitely aware of a4l, do a lot of aspirational shopping there . Best wishes,

    Tim
