...and by the way, when I mentioned a sub making a big difference pls keep in mind that it's only my opinion...didn't wish to imply that without one a person's system is less than good....just wanted to convey what it's done for me...even with speakers already having
good bass, it was the reinforcement of the bass and the sub 35 hz
that really made an impression: i could really feel/chew on the bass
player in Nora Jones DVD, for example.

I am glad some 170's are finding a new home.
I do not think I have had a let down. I try and make sure I make smart purchases and do a fair amount of research beforehand. I have not had anything modded because I am always skeptical about the return on investment and would rather put my money into something that will make a known difference.
Please give us your candid thoughts of the CBM-170's when you receive them.

So far, I'm with Curtis. Some careful planning and shopping has left me with no buyers remorse so far. My best "bang for the buck" item so far has been the decision to go DIY for my speaker cable. Will soon tackle a DIY project for the rest of my interconnects.

Hi Eddie,
I'd be interested in hearing more about your DIY speaker
cable project. For my mains and center channel, I went with
speaker cable (w banana plugs) from PartsExpress.com. However,
for my surrounds, I went with 14ga. speaker wire I got at Loew's.
A big roll. Now I have to figure the best way to connect it up.
The surrounds are mounted high up on the side and back walls
of the room, so it's a fairly long run. I was just going to connect
amp to speakers with bare wire, but I'm interested in what others
have done.
Thanks,
Rick

Hey, Rick. Check out this link, as it works well and looks great.

Great link, Eddie! Thanks!

I used that method for my mains and center with banana plugs on the receiver end and spades on the speaker ends. For surrounds, I left the wire bare without all the pretty stuff and hid it under the carpet. I still used the bananas and spades, however.
