    Default Crest Factor

    Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone has a graph of the probability distribution of the crest factor of music? I work in the telecom world were we spend a lot time looking at such a graph for our RF frequencies (refered to as a CCDF curve, see example here: http://wireless.agilent.com/wireless...cdf_curves.htm). But this is such a critical thing as it relates to the performance of the system that I wondered why I don't see more of that in audio discussions. I've googled around and just see things like the crest factory of music is 17- 20dB. But what percentage of the time is that? And what does the curve look like at different probabilities.

Seems like this would be critical to know for the speaker design and then corresponding amp selection.

    Thoughts?
    Jim
