Looks like the Ascend set-up you describe would work great. Matter of fact, that's my exact set-up.

    Sony WE610 60" LCD RPTV
    Pioneer Elite 59TXi AVR
Pioneer Elite 59AVi Universal DVD player
    CBM 170 Front L/R
    CBM 340c Center
HTM 200s Rear L/R and rear surround (6.1)
    HSU VTF-3
    Monster THX certified interconnects
DIY speaker cable (that's better than anyhing I can purchase elsewhere)

Thanks for the quick reply, I thought it would be. I was wondering though if the the STF-2 sub would be enough for the room since I also want to it inside the entertainment unit behind a door with speaker grille ?

    Red flag.....

I do not think a sub inside a cabinet behind a door is a good thing....even with speaker grills. You should call Ascend or Hsu about that one.

Your going vibrate the hell out of your entertainment center putting the sub in it and the resulting sound from inclosing it will suck too.

I thought it would so I will just have to find another place for the sub.

so this setup works well? i've been going through all the different combinations and came up with this exact one. my room is semi small (12'x15' with cathedral ceilings). i wanted to make sure the 170's match well with a 340c in the center, and that the 200s can keep up as surrounds w/o a noticable loss in the lower freqs. i'll be powering them with an onkyo tx-sr601.

    thanks

    B-dub.....welcome to the forum.

All three speakers match very well.

Will you be using a sub? The lower frequencies will be handled by the sub, so there should not be any issues there.

Any good, properly calibrated sub will be able to bother your neighbors. Its just that the bigger and louder ones will be able to do it more. Basicly, if the smaller sub is capable of the same loudness at proper volumes, it will make no difference to your neighbors.

How high are the ceilings in the room?
