Default Down firing versus front firing

What would be the reason to choose one over the other?

I think I found my answer.

Best I can tell would be lower cost and "child" protection for the down-firing subwoofer.

It is mostly an aesthetic issue. Some prefer to use the subwoofer as an end table, in which case the downfiring model is the best option.

I actually think that a front firing sub is more flexible with placement vs Bass integration and room mode. For example, a down firing sub will always a have the sub facing downwards no matter where u placed in the room. Unlike a front firing, you can actually face the sub to wherever u wish or where you think is best.

If you test them in all areas of the room. and in all configs(facing up, down, forward, backward), you will see what your room prefers...
My room likes the sub driver facing up, so my Rythmik sub has a woofer that faces up...
I have a home made Rythmik 12" sealed(with Brians plans), I placed it all over the room, and a bit off to the left(front wall) facing up gives me the best frequency response in MY room.
All subs and room interactions are different.

Gonna be a bear to test the 2 x 15" Dual Opposed subs i'm building, I'm hoping to use them as end tables.....

Have fun, The Rythmiks sound sweet!
