When I compared my CMT-340's to Von Schweikert VR-1's at a local shop, we used a Consonance tube amp. I do not recall what the differences were...so nothing that really stood out in my mind.

Tube amps do different things to different speakers.

Some of the ultra high end speaker companies will tweak their speakers depending on whether the amplification is tubed or SS. I have no idea if it makes an actual difference or if they're just playing to the predjudices of their customers.
Tubed amp afcionados can be a bit different than the rest of us. They can hear the earth rotate. []

Thats cracks me up bikeman! I probably will never be able to claim to hear the earth rotate. For instance my hearing is SOOOO bad that I can't even hear my wife yelling at me right now to take the trash out!
