It would not matter one way or the other on how you hooked up the wire....as long as you do not cross the connection, you are fine....ie. the side with the letters stays positive, the side without stays negative.

For the diffused sound...if you are sure they are hooked up right, I would play with placement.

look between the wires most the the wires will have a rib/bumps onlong the side of the wire on the inside of the wire the side that hads the ribs/bumps will be the pos+
