I have heard the M60 and the RS750, and ofcourse the Ascends. In that size room, the CMT-340's will have no problem at all, in fact, the CBM-170's will do pretty good as well.

My room is 14'x20' and the 340s definitely fill the room.

Where are you located? Perhaps someone in your town would have you over for a demo.

Austin,TX. In a room this size should I go VT3 or VT2. I want to try to get this right the first time. Curtis, I have been reading post on another forum, where ya'll did some side by side comparisions in LA. I am a little confused, on the 340 you had, there was some mention that something was off. An then Mad Dog, said thought the 340 was better than the Rocket center. I did not understand this contradiction. Could you clarify, did you figure out what was up with the 340?

Are more people going with the 340's across the front now, Curtis is the only one I see that has done it.

    Thanks

I am the only one listed in the demo thread to have 340's across the front, but more people have them. Clutch is the first that I know of that has 5 CMT-340's.

At Mad Dog's, the 340 with a problem was the l/r version. The 340 that Mad Dog was referring to was the center version.

In that room size, IMO, the VTF-2 would be fine. The VTF-3 will get you more extension and volume if you desire it.

    Thanks for your responses.

Did you ever figure out why the 340 L/R didn't sound quite right?

I too have 5 340's and I also have the VTF 2. I am still getting everything setup and calibrated. I will be posting my thoughts after I get everything setup, but I can tell you this...you ain't gonna have anytrouble filling the room with 340's and a VTF 2...actually, I am getting concerned about the structural integrity of my house at this point.

That's a pretty good size room. The 340's would probably handle it pretty well, but I'd think you'd be pushing the 170's pretty hard to "fill" a room that size.

How far back from the speakers will your listening postion be?

I'd also recommend the Hsu VTF-3 or STF-3 for that size room. The VTF/STF-2 would work, but if you're 70% HT, you'll probably really appreciate the little extra oooph the 3 will give you over the 2. (Both are equally as tight and clean sounding)

I'm an Axiom owner (M60, VP150, QS8) and love my setup. I've heard Curtis's setup as well, and it's pretty darn good as well. Axiom and Ascend have a very similar sound. You should find a local owner that's willing to give you a demo. If you're in the LA area I'm sure Curtis is willing - and I'm always open for demos.

    Good luck and have fun!

This evening, for kicks, I hooked up my extra CBM-170's and cranked them up to 90 dBs at the listening position without a problem, no subwoofer. My room is 14x18x9, and the listening position is about 10' from the speakers.
