I think the Yamaha would be fine.

Give Ascend a call about their receiver pricing and custom painted cabinets.

I am thinking of upgrading my receiver to HK.This is what ive found so far:

    avr525 for $480
    avr430 for $660
    avr630 for $739-$800
The problem I'm running into are 2 fold.First I dont see what the differance is between my yamaha RV703,and these HK's are, except more power.Secondly i have wife factor to deal with.$$$

hk receivers are high current. you'll definately like it more than your yamaha. in the meantime your yamaha will do just fine.

went with a HK 320.Just got my speakers hooked up(to the yamaha for now)tell Hk comes in.

By the way the speakers sound 1000 fold better then the ht in a box yamaha speakers,(dumb noob question coming)one question I have is looking at the back whats the top? Does the baffel go on top or bottom.
on a side note:I dont see where youd need a sub for the ascends.Maybe its just because im used to cheap speakers but these things have plenty of bass.

side note 2: speakers were 99.8% flaw free only flaw was a spot where it looked like someone dropped it on the back side half round. No big deal to me though seeing how it is in a shelf setup.

Congrats on the new speakers, when you say baffle, are you talking about the ports on the back? On both the 170 and 340 L/R's, the port should be on the top part of the speaker. Also, there should be an Ascend sticker and serial # sticker on the back of the speakers which should give a clue to which side is up.

when i goto order the 2 rear speakers do you think it would be better to have 3-340's across the front and use the 170's as rear speakers

That's what I did. Depends on the size of your room and if you have any mounting issues with the speakers.

14x16x7.6H if i did get 2 more 340's for the front they'd have to sit horizontaly in or on thr top of the entertainment center.so the l&r would be 6' up off the ground and the center sits 4 1/2 feet off the ground.there'd be about 8"between the l/c/r.

do you think the HK avr320 will work ok
