Show off your room here
I will start it off, here is my room.
340 classics across the front, 200s for surrounds and SVS PB-12 Plus. I use the XR-55 reciever, and a Marantz 4300 CDP. The cable box is HD and the DVD player is a 6 year old panasonic...waiting for the HD DVD BluRay war to end. My projector is a Optoma H31 witch is native 480p, but can recieve up to 1080i and I use a 90 inch DIY screen. HD looks VERY VERY good on this setup, people are always shocked by it. I also have some DIY bass traps in front of my room (orange) and above the side surrounds (black). The tan shades on the side of the screen are window shades. Some first reflection point treatment is in the future and posibly a BFD and some bass shakers for the coutch (though it shakes pretty good as is).

how did you decide to place the bass traps? what did you make them out of? I have a bunch of acoustic foam i bought awhile ago to soundproof a room. I was thinking about using some of that in my theatre room. Ive been researching placement of acoustic treatments and there is information out there but its super complicated and usually turns into a scientific description of sound waves.

Thanks for the kind words, it was a lot of work.
Muzz, I think I am going to stick with the H31 for a while, I really think it has a great picture. Do you own a 720P projector and if so how did it compare to a 480P?
Quinn, Yes the ceilings are painted with a Behr paint called Dark Cavern which is a very dark brown practically black. I rolled it on. My room originally was all off white. I put the projector up to see how it looked, and it was fine, but since this is a dedicated room I decided to go all out. The darker the wall the less light the room is. So I painted the front portion (the parts that you would see out of the corners of your eyes when viewing the screen) the burnt orange color. My wife and I thought this would be to dark if it were everywhere in the room so we made the back half of the room the light blue. I was a little worried about painting the ceiling, but thought what the heck, if I do not like it I can paint it white again. It is definitely going to stay black, since I have a ceiling mount projector, the ceiling would sort of glow when it was white, not a problem any more.
Greggle31, I got a lot of bass trap info from Ethan Winer’s site: http://www.musicplayer.com/cgi-bin/u...=0;DaysPrune=0
The Orange Bass traps in front are made out of Knauf rigid fiberglass 3lb. 3 sheets thick. I have more sheets that I will use for first reflection points as I did behind the center channel. The black traps above the surrounds are 8lb mineral wool because it is thinner and cheaper than 3 sheets of Knauf (but not too nice to work with). As far as placement I did some Low frequency sweeps and used a Radio Shack SPL meter to see what placement helped the most. Check out the website I referenced, it has great DIY advice and theory.
