HDMI setup help

I have the Denon AVR 3806 and the new Oppo DVD player hooked up via HDMI cable, routed through my Reciever. Video is very nice, however when watching DVD, the reciever will not decode Dolby Digital playback. It's always in the Dolby Prologic mode no matter what format I choose on the DVD player. Am I doing something wrong or is this normal. I guess I'm asking if the Dolby Digital format can be played using HDMI cable.

how many speakers to you have? if you have a 7.1 set up, your receiver will use a program (like Dolby Prologic) to change the 5.1 input to a 7.1 output.

Also, make sure in the DVD player's setup menu to set the HDMI audio output (or whatever it's called by Oppo) to "bitstream".
